Maybe offtopic, but just reading this thread makes me never want to drive in the States ever again. You people are terrifying.

Thank you!

We take that as a compliment.

Wow, this thread went waaaaaaaaayyyyy sideways in a real quick hurry. (How did we get into the exterior ballistics of the 300 Blackout anyway? An AR will not fit in the console box.) I'm not asking if I should keep a gun in the truck or what is the best gun, nor about calibers, ballistics, bullets, actions, sights, grips, nor about anything else except for what guns fit in the damn box. I have my own opinions on all these gun topics formed by 50 years of shooting, serving a hitch in the Marines, and 10 years working at Bushmaster Firearms back in the 90's before they went to hell. I already know what I like and what works for me. Just looking for input on what guns fit in the box. That's it.

Thank you namsag for posting up that the Glock 19/23 fits, I did not know that and that might very well be my solution right there. Scottryana I'd be interested to see if that L-frame(or is it an N-frame?) Smith fits, I don't believe the cylinder will allow the box to close. Maybe a K-frame would fit though. I know a Colt Detective Special fits and I'm pretty sure the cylinders on those and the S&W K-frames are the same size because they can take the same speedloaders. With a Beretta 84 I also had an issue with the rotating tab on the lock and needing to leave enough room for that to swing without scratching the hell out of the gun. It was a very tight fit but it did fit.

The reason I asked the question on the forum here was that sometimes the specifications on the website do not match the actual dimensions of the gun. (Any IPSC or USPSA shooter will tell you the same thing.) Might be due to different sights, different grips, different generation piece, lever extensions, whatever. So I figured I'd ask around and see what was already working for folks before putting my money down on a new-to-me piece. It's not like too many gun stores are gonna let me lug their guns out to the truck to see if they fit, and pulling the box out of the console is kind of a pain what with removing the liner and all in freezing temperatures. (I might just have to do that though and bring it into the store with me.)

I like the Tikka T3X rifles that the Canadian Rangers just got. Those also won't fit in the console box, however.

I don't trust my measuring skills that much: no matter how many times I measure before I cut it seems like the board always ends up too short. I've tried welding the boards back together but it seems like no matter what kind of amperage or dowel rod I use the wood just burns...

My wife is a great shot. She keeps her 44 S&W mod 29 in the bottom box between the front seats. No joke... she loves the 44 mag but she shoots 44 Special instead of the mag load in it.

Sorry calling BS on 10" barrel and accuracy to 800yrds. Unless your idea of accuracy is hitting a wall. 300blk out was invented to give troops a hard hitting short distance <100yrd round. The idea that the 5.56 being a small sectional area and quite fast that it would go right through the enemy. Troops wanted a heavier bullet that wouldn't penetrate and would deposit more energy.

**Edited**
At 800 yds the drop on a 300blk out that is 185g with a BC of 0.560 and 1000ft/sec is

yrds - 800
drop in inches -1172.1
drop in MOA -139.9
Velocity - 797.9ft/sec
Energy - 268.5ft/lbs

You have almost 100 feet of drop at 800yrds. And I don't know of any scopes that can even be dialed into 140MOA of drop. Even 34mm scopes usually max out at about 70MOA so even if you use a canted base you're still not close.

God, you would crush all my BS fishing stories, facts are fun crushers:flipoff2:

If a tape measure is that much if a challenge, maybe a butter knife is a better weapon for you?:p

Would they let you bring a tape measure into the store with you?

Only if the tape measure is all plastic or it won't it pass the metal detector. 3D printed or self made(80%) measuring tapes are strictly prohibited!

Well, if folks already have an answer then why 'reinvent the wheel'. Apparently very few are going to chime in and help answer my original question of what guns fit the box. Not what 'should fit' or 'might fit' or 'ought to fit' but ones that actually DO fit. Sure I can figure it out myself, but why would I if I can ask folks that have already done it? Ain't that what this forum is for?

Yeah, and I think you need special permits for tape measures under 16" in length...:rimshot:
