Man-o-man, What a truck!

Kicks ass in all categories. The towing is especially eye-opening.

Little things like a butter-smooth 6 speed auto and 4.30 gears with a 10.5 inch , let me repeat that, a 10.5 inch ring gear. That thing is a monster.

We drove Tundras, the brand new Chevy with the 6 liter, Ford, Dodge and the Nissan Titan.

All I can say is IF you are looking at a new truck, drive ALL of them first and if possible with a load.

The Tundra is amazing.

OK, spill the beans. What are the tow rating, HP, and torque numbers?

cruiserdan, thats cool.my launch is the 25th of this month.looking forward to it.if i'm not mistaken isn't the towing capacity 11,000 lbs

I would if I knew them. They will be released Monday. We also got to see the CrewMax cab. That cab is bigger than the big Dodge cab.

Close to 400 HP and over 10,000 lbs towing.

That information will also be released Monday. My bet is that a top drawer 4wd Double cab will be in the mid 40's.

So, for $40K+ you are getting power and torque? Is that it?

I've never really understood the full-sized pickup market. It's always seemed to me to be about towing and showing off what a small peni...one has...

I see these douchebags all over the place who drive these big trucks and think they are all bad ass, tailgating people, gunning their rigs, peeling out, etc.

I would hate to see Toyota become the market for these guys....but I am afraid it is going to be.

That is the problem with trying to become the number 1 car maker in the world--you get all the assholes who want your vehicles as well.

Dan--does the truck do anything else besides tow a bunch of pounds? Is it coil sprung in the rear? Does it have a locker? Besides having a large ring gear in the back, will there be a TRD package? What is the audience/market for this vehicle?

[ Beno is sorry for sounding negative on a new Toyota product...]

hhhmm...my 2003 Duramax is getting 21mpg right now...and with the gooseneck hitch I installed today, provides me the ability to haul a trailer that'll hold both the 80 and the 40 at the same time...

yer right Beno, it IS about towing ;)

I've heard LOTS of good stuff on this new Tundra tho....local dealer has me on the "short list" to test drive one (assuming I'm not already off with my new Trail Team job ;) )

Sounds very cool, any pics available yet?

How the heck did you snag such a cool job Woody?

Why do you care? Sounds like you have no need for a full size pickup. :)

Because I care about the history, tradition, heritage and lineage of my own vehicle which happens to be a Toyota Land Cruiser.

And yes Ben, you are right, I am not in the market for something that will haul 10K+.

;)

Yeah, I don't need one either, but still very interested in it. :)

I read on a Toyota Truck Forum that there may be 3 different engines for the new Tundra and they were not going to be released all at the same time.

They also mentioned that the double cab may not be released for a while as well.

Is that correct?

Is there going to be both a long and short bed option?

And finally (maybe I missed this) but are they offering a 3/4 or 1 ton?

If this is what I am hoping it is, then I can get rid of my Ford F250 diesel.

Thanks,
Brian

If you go to the first post of the thread I linked above, you will find the answer to all your questions.

I don't get it .. no pictures .. not even a reference to colour options

:D :D :D

I sat in one and played around in it at the auto show this weekend. I'm kinda undecided. I like the previous gen crew cab better. better visibility, I like the big sunroof and the huge complete roll down rear window. It's like sitting in a 100 series, then jumping in an FJ cruiser. The rear window on the new tundra is smaller than the rear glass on my 40, and it doesn't roll down, or at least not in the crew cab that I sat in. It was a slider, and I kid you not it was smaller than my 84 pickup. know I'm not in or out a lot, but it's a nice feature that I dont like about the new tundra.

The rear camera is going to be a necessity for anything that requires precision, but what the engineers missed, becasue they probably dont drive trucks is that they need a second camera to look in the bed. If your like me, keeping a constant check on the load and how it's riding is important and you cannot see anything in the bed while your driving. If you have a dog, you won't know if he's still there till you stop.

I like the new engine from the numbers. BTW the mileage is BETTER than the 4.7 with a lot more power. The bed is what it is, a bed. Nothing real special.

rear seat room (keep in mind this was a crew not megacrew/should buy a sequia..) was smaller than a std crew cab chevy and either the seat is higher or the lid is lower because it is a much more "tight" feeling. Similar to a 4 door taco.

My overall impression is that it's a great competitor for the american market. Bloated styling, lots of hp and plasic interior, needs clearance for docking, and has 5 hole rims?

I think this may free up the 4.7 to be used in the taco which would be nice for the weekend boat tower.
