None of my stuff ever sees road salt. It’s either stored during the winter, driven on Washington Island (the island does not allow road salt, only sand), or it gets moved to Houston for the winter. IH8roadsalt.

Hey thatcabledude, I have to go meet AutoRepairSpecialist today when I pick up my new to me rig. Is there anything you would ask him while you had the chance? I did him a favor and did not post his name, address and telephone number from the service invoices. I have done some googling and checked out his shop. Clearly, Landcruisers are not his day job, but he seems to have a reputable business taking care of BMWs and assorted eurostuff. His shop is only 5 miles from me which also saved me the trouble of buying a rig out west and having to get it home 1500 miles.Holy crap! I think "Auto Repair Specialist" is going to miss this truck.

I do quite a bit of maintenance on my other stuff myself so I have factory service manuals for all of my stuff. Is there a preferred manual for the FZJ80 Toyota/Lexus that I should be looking for that would have all of the answers like torque specs etc?
Hey ajordan1975, thanks for the local service tip for Javier’s. I prefer working with an independent specialist over a dealer anytime I can’t do the work myself. I don’t have a lift or my big toolbox here in Houston so a great local specialist would be a big help if needed until I get it sorted.@radar5667 Sense you're in Houston you should take your LC's to Javier's Autos Unlimited of Clay road. He's the best "un-official" official Land Cruiser mechanic in town!
Do the valve clearances usually have to be adjusted at this mileage, WYIT?Nice to know info would be if the valve seals were replaced. I was told the head gasket was done on mine before i got it but i am confident the valve seals werent done and i really wish they had been.

Oh ok, I gather these aren't like the 3RZs or 3FEs which have to be checked regularly. 1fz seems pretty bombproof to me with a properly maintained cooling system, but then I don't know much about mechanics. If the head is pulled, it is wise to have the valves checked, seats faced, valves tipped, clearances checked and adjusted (with shims), valve guides checked and replaced if necessary, valve seals replaced.
Otherwise, if it's not having a problem, leave it alone.
