Well, I am at that point that most of us have been....the good ol cracked intake manifold. I only had to pull off the carb and look at it... even as dirty as it was, it's pretty clear.

Suspected that this might be one of the problems...along with bad gaskets, loose bolts, etc...

Now I need some help. I am new to the Phoenix area and need a recommendation on a machine shop to mill my manifolds and weld the crack.... can anyone out there shoot me over a suggestion or two?

Also, how much should this job cost and how long? If there is a mud vendor that does it, I would rather support them.. even if I need to ship it off. Just want it done right. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

If you want to ship it to California, there's an excellent shop here that has a lot of experience with these.
Not cheap though.

if you have to ask...check into a used mani in the classifieds...expect to pay about 1-150 for a little quality welding.

Thanks for the tips @LAMBCRUSHER, not so worried about the 150ish.. just wanted so support a MUD vendor if it was possible. Also was hoping there was a local guy..you got any suggestions? Thanks, man!

task the machinist who will mill your mating surface post repair and assembly with the project. provide him with the heat riser heat shield or block off and associated gaskets...If he can't do it, find a better machinist.

If you use the blok off plate, you don't need to fix the crack .

I'm talking about the block off plates available from cruiser outfitters and SOR that go between the intake and exhaust manifold, effectively shielding the intake from the hot exhaust gases. You have to trim the thermal flap, but with the plate installed, you won't have a vacuum leak.

Supposed to make cold starts a little more difficult, but I've never experienced it in So. Cal...

Awesome, @Spikestrip. Thanks for the info...I looked last night and got what you were saying...but this helps even more.
Thanks, I will go this route. Does it make any sense to have the welding done then? Probably not...But most defiantly the milling of the manifolds, correct?

just buy a used manifold and have it milled...the block off will work only till the gasket between the manifolds goes, then you're back to square one with a huge intake leak. the block off is a band aid, and you'll still have to take everything apart to put it in...may as well fix it if you're already in there, no?
