David! What an awesome surprise to see your post this morning. And of course I am glad to see you have some into the light (though I must say that your LR4 build was pretty sweet.) It is great to have you part of this forum. And it is an awesome forum. It reminds me a lot of the LR4 forum we were on together. Though I would say there is even a great depth and extent of knowledge here in part due to the awesome people on this forum and in part due to the fact that more work can be done on these Land Cruisers. It is also great that you have met @Markuson. When I came over to this forum Mark reminded me a fair bit of yourself. Very helpful! Knowledgeable. And a bit obsessive with modding his truck. :D Seriously, I think Mark often mods his mods. I don't know if there is an inch he hasn't changed except for the roof.

Anyway, great to see you are getting an LC. Your reasons for making the move match mine though I had the additional challenge of needing to two a larger travel trailer. Reliability, simplicity, not as gimmicky as the new Discoverys are. Proven. (Some of the stuff they do to and with these trucks in Australia is nuts. Then there is the guy on the forum from the Middle East who jumps his LC. Seriously. They beef up the suspension then see how high they can jump them. Not my thing but it points to the durability of these vehicles.) And, yes, you can mod them more easily and more effectively than the LR4. Starting with tires.

Anyway, great group here and very glad to see you join. Once you have your new LC, post some pics in the Picture thread. And if you start doing mods, you can post to the What did you do to your ... Or if you plan to do a more extensive build you can create your own own build thread. But be careful. You may follow Mark down that rabbit hole.

Hello Dan,

Greetings my friend - what an amazing surprise to see your response. I actually e-mailed you before Christmas, but I am not sure if you received it? I also sent you a note on Instagram to say hello and rack your brain about the switch from LR4 to LC200. Now I never go on any forums for the LR4 and have really drifted away from Overland Bound. I am so busy in MA on my property and work keeps me very occupied. I only have 40,000 miles on my rover, so since I moved almost 3 years ago, I have not done many trips or drive it a lot (the benefits of working from home).

I am very excited about the LC200 and really looking forward to taking delivery. It was a BIG decision for me, as I love my rover and have experience in the vehicle, but I really need something more reliable, durable, simple, and lower key. Like I said, I don't want a "luxury" badge at all, but I want quality, capability, and comfort. I am going to be making trips back and forth from MA to PA often (it's about 5 hours) and I need something that I can trust and is comfortable on the road. Oh man, I agree about the tires, as I can see already that it comes with 285/60/R18 stock, so I assume I can easily put 285/65/R18 BFG KO2s with no problem and keep my stock rim. They also sell BFG KO2s in 285/60/R18. As you know, wheels/tires on the LR4 become a HUGE discussion and expense.

As for modifications, I actually think I am going to keep it simple for now. I need to decide if I will get the 17" Evo Corse Dakarzero wheels that Main Line Overland offers and get bigger BFG KO2s, but not sure I want to do that right away. Plus, I'm not sure if I can just throw those wheels on with tires unless I do a lift. These are all questions I have not even researched! I am not planning a lift or updated UCAs (etc.) at this point because I won't be doing technical wheeling or anything advanced at this point. For the first couple years, I think I will just black out the silve trim, powder coat my stock rims black, update the tires, and do a roof rack, drawers (that's my favorite modification in the LR4), and maybe the Slee sliders - but that's it. I need to read if it's necessary to do the lift, etc. So, I probably won't be doing a heavy modification build like my LR4, but will take it slow and calculated. For my needs, I need more of a long-distance driver comfortable driver that handles snow/ice conditions, and handle dirt and fire roads. I really want to keep it very clean and road worthy with no major modifications at this point.

It sounds like you still love your 2016 LC200 and haven't looked back since you sold your LR4. :-)

Looking forward to reconnecting on these forums - I'll probably ask you a few questions. The biggest one for me right now is can I fit BFG KO2s in 285/65/R18 on the stock rims with NO other modifications. :)

Regards and blessings, my friend,

David

Hey, David, sorry I missed your emails. My email is now drhpublic@gmail.com. As for Instagram, I have totally ignored it for years. But just yesterday I looked at getting a bit active again as a way to share my landscape photo hobby with friends.

As for the tires and such. I put the 285/65 R18 KO2s on my 2016 in the first week that I had it. No issues. There may have been rubbing at full lock and articulated but I never noticed anything. I now have 55K on them and will probably run them to over 60K. (I run Nokians over the winter.) LOTs of tire threads on this forum! If you go with 17" wheels then I believe the 275/75s become an option but best to check the threads on this forum. There is even a tire/wheel spreadsheet posted somewhere that can be very helpful.

As for other mods, I did Slee sliders within a couple of months of ownership. This was followed by the ARB drawers (I removed the 3rd row seats myself - very easy). The roof rack came 6 months later. I didn't do a lift for over a years and then only a modest one. For me it was less about the lift and more about strengthening the suspension for towing a trailer. I did other minor mods like onboard compressor, removal of the rear entertainment system and such. But modest compared to some on this forum. Considered a front bumper, lights, winch but the cost made me hesitate on that for now. I won't go any larger with tires. My offroad stuff is pretty moderate whereas some folks on this forum do some crazy stuff!

BTW, I had 55K on my LR4 after two years of ownership and much of that was not on pavement. ;-) I now have over 60K on my LC after 2.5 years of ownership but most of that is due to long road trips to the PNW.

Hello Dan,

Thanks so much for the message. Ah, I may have got the e-mail slightly off for some reason - my apologies. I barely post on Instagram anymore, but use it to keep up with folks and learn about different vehicles. I sure hope you post some of your photos, because they are surely amazing.

I appreciate you providing the information on the tires - that sounds great. I will likely just keep the stock wheels (I may powder coat them black) and go with the 285/65/R18 KO2s and be done. I like the idea of the tread and ability to do 17" wheels, but I don't think I will ever need them in the coming future. I will save my money likely and do the ARB drawers, as those are most important to me. I currently have Front Runner and I love them, but it says the ones for 2018 LC200 are not available right now. I will also likely do a roof rack, but keep it relatively streamlined like a Gobi or Pinsu. I also want to mount my onboard air compressor, but at this point it's more of a light build. I don't plan to go crazy with this one as I want it to last for years and use it mainly for travel. Wow, you sure got the miles! :-) I am way way below that as I said, so the LC should not rack up mileage much, though I am planning some bigger trips for sure.

I am looking forward to keeping in touch!!!

Hi folks, new member, just came across site. Have a 2015 European spec 200 based in Scotland. Sadly not many 200's around here, especially since Toyota stopped selling them here start of 2016. The spec here has KDSS and AHC, which confused me to start with, as when surfing around there are so many threads on suspension lifts etc - guess that is for markets where AHC is not there. No real mods so far apart from powder coating the rims matt black which I love - rims are 20" standard here - kind of seems a bit mad, but fortunately BFG just started (or i've just found them) AT KO2's that fit. Did think about sourcing some 18" rims, but put that off for now.

Howdy!

Welcome - even though I am very new as well. That's a beautiful LC200 - wow! I take delivery of my 2018 LC200 the end of February 2019, as here in the US sales of all new LC/LX have been stopped until the passenger seatbelt tensiorer sensor recall is completed. I absolutely LOVE the rims black and I will likely do the same as well. It's going to be a while before I actually do any real modifications, except swithcing out the stock tires with BFG KO2s. I would say 20" rims are better than 19" rims! :-) I had to dump my 19" rims on my rover and buy Compomotive 18" wheels form the UK. I'm so glad the US spec LC200 comes with 18" rims, most SUVs in that price point people want at least 20"!!!

Looking forward to seeing you on the forums.

Regards, David

Hi! I'm on the same page, waiting for recall is completed before taking the delivery. Do you know how those BFG KO2s will effect road noise or gas mileage? I was thinking of changing the tires ASAP.

Hello,

That's a beautiful LC200 - very nice... I love the silver color. I actually am now getting a black one with the terra interior as another dealership who would not move on their price actually went way down for me. I'm excited! Please keep in touch about the recall, as I was told the parts should be arriving from Japan next week and recalls should start to be done. From my understanding, it's not a lot of work to change the passenger seatbelt tensioner sensor, so hopefully delivery is not too delayed.

As for the BFG AT KO2s, I have them on my current Land Rover LR4 (265/65/R18) and they are quiet on the road and a really nice tire. I don't pay attention to gas mileage much, but it was not a huge hit. My rover is VERY heavy and has the big 5.0 V8, so like the Land Cruiser, the MPGs just don't matter much given we already are not very good. Though, the Land Cruiser should be a treat, as I get less than 10 miles to the gallon on the highway currently - hahaha! :)

I am getting the BFG AT KO2s very shortly after delivery and going with 285/65/R18 on the stock wheels. I heard from a couple LC200 people they are great, quiet, and have performed very well with everything stock. I hope that helps!

Please keep me posted what you hear from the dealership about delivery and about the tires.

Regards , David

Just a quick update... I was at the dealership yesterday and they got the recall part and did the fix very quickly. I am bringing my check on Friday and signing the paperwork and expect delivery early next week. I could take delivery earlier, but I requested speciality license plates and the dealership needs a few days to go to the DMV. So, for others waiting on delivery of their new LC200, dealerships should be getting the parts from Japan this week! Can't wait to take delivery!!!

Hey David! Welcome aboard (No, I'm not stalking you. :cautious: )

When I commented on Insta about selling the LR4 last week, I never thought to see if you'd joined here. I've been collecting links and how-tos for when I eventually get one to replace the T4R. This year we're doing the entire kitchen (for about the same price as a new 200...) so It'll be at least next year. So again, like when I first joined the LR forums, I'll be enjoying vicariously through you and the other folks here on MUD.

Enjoy the new ride!

Hello Steve,

Thanks so much for the message - it's awesome to hear from you! :-) I have not been on the LR4 forums in years and I barely go on Overlandbound - sometimes I feel like the coveted spot of OB #0001 is wasted on me! :-) I will always be that number, but the emblems are stayting with my rover when my friend Chad buys it the end of this month. Kitchen remodels can be very expensive, but you can likely get a good price on a left over 2019 next year! ;-)

I will post photos once I take delivery early next week. For now, I'm only replacing the tires, installing Front Runner drawers, and blacking out the wheels/chrome accents.

Very nice to connect again my friend!

Regards & blessings, David

Hello Everyone,

I took delivery of the new LC200 yesterday and it's quite a vehicle. I have not driven too much yet, but it's such an amazingly smooth and commanding ride. I will post some photos very soon! So, for those of you waiting for delivery because of the passenger seatbelt tensioner sensor recall - LC200 and LXs should be available now!!!

I already ordered Front Runner drawers and 285/65/R18 BFG AT KO2 wheels that arrive/get installed next week. More to follow......

Regards, David

Hello Everyone,

Well, I took delivery of the new LC200 on Saturday and had BFG TA KO2s put on this morning and they look awesome. I went with the 285/65/R18 size that seem to be a favorite among folks running them on a "stock" vehicle. Thanks so much for everyone on this forum for all the great advice and help.

Regards, David

Thank you! I did not get a chance to drive it for long, but went about 7-8 miles on country roads and a couple miles on the highway and they were fantastic! I did not hear any road noise at all, but I am coming from a super load Land Rover LR4 and the LC200 is DEAD quiet compared with that vehicle. I actually think the ride is better, maybe a little bit stiffer(?), but definitely a good tire choice. I'm really happy with my choice and the tire pressure seems perfect - thanks to these forums that recommend 42psi all around (and the spare) for the BFG T/A KO2 at 285/65/R18.

I hope your LC200 is ready for pick up soon!!! Can't wait to see photos and what you choose for tires. Best of luck!

Regards, David

Wow looks awesome! Just called the dealer and mine is not ready for pickup :(. How is the road noise? I'm looking into either the KO2 or Nitto Terra Grapplers G2 on stock rims.

Hello everyone. Picked up my Midnight Black with Terra interior past Saturday! Drove it home from dealer and took it for a short trip to my favorite tint shop so far. Can't wait to take the truck on a serious drive. I must confess that unlike most folks on this forum I only came across these forums AFTER deciding on buying mine. I have always been a fan of this vehicle. I am very happy that I came across this site and hope to learn from everyone on here and share my own experiences and perhaps adventures of my own. Thank you and here are a few photos of my new truck.

Haha! It’s funny, almost everyone where I live thinks my rover is a Jeep. I prefer to just go along with it. ;)

Thats funny. The day I brought my land cruiser home someone at a family gathering complimented me on buying a highlander. "The new ones are little bigger than the older models". smh. I knew this was going to happen so I just go along with it as well.
