Hello Dan,
Greetings my friend - what an amazing surprise to see your response. I actually e-mailed you before Christmas, but I am not sure if you received it? I also sent you a note on Instagram to say hello and rack your brain about the switch from LR4 to LC200. Now I never go on any forums for the LR4 and have really drifted away from Overland Bound. I am so busy in MA on my property and work keeps me very occupied. I only have 40,000 miles on my rover, so since I moved almost 3 years ago, I have not done many trips or drive it a lot (the benefits of working from home).
I am very excited about the LC200 and really looking forward to taking delivery. It was a BIG decision for me, as I love my rover and have experience in the vehicle, but I really need something more reliable, durable, simple, and lower key. Like I said, I don't want a "luxury" badge at all, but I want quality, capability, and comfort. I am going to be making trips back and forth from MA to PA often (it's about 5 hours) and I need something that I can trust and is comfortable on the road. Oh man, I agree about the tires, as I can see already that it comes with 285/60/R18 stock, so I assume I can easily put 285/65/R18 BFG KO2s with no problem and keep my stock rim. They also sell BFG KO2s in 285/60/R18. As you know, wheels/tires on the LR4 become a HUGE discussion and expense.
As for modifications, I actually think I am going to keep it simple for now. I need to decide if I will get the 17" Evo Corse Dakarzero wheels that Main Line Overland offers and get bigger BFG KO2s, but not sure I want to do that right away. Plus, I'm not sure if I can just throw those wheels on with tires unless I do a lift. These are all questions I have not even researched! I am not planning a lift or updated UCAs (etc.) at this point because I won't be doing technical wheeling or anything advanced at this point. For the first couple years, I think I will just black out the silve trim, powder coat my stock rims black, update the tires, and do a roof rack, drawers (that's my favorite modification in the LR4), and maybe the Slee sliders - but that's it. I need to read if it's necessary to do the lift, etc. So, I probably won't be doing a heavy modification build like my LR4, but will take it slow and calculated. For my needs, I need more of a long-distance driver comfortable driver that handles snow/ice conditions, and handle dirt and fire roads. I really want to keep it very clean and road worthy with no major modifications at this point.
It sounds like you still love your 2016 LC200 and haven't looked back since you sold your LR4.
Looking forward to reconnecting on these forums - I'll probably ask you a few questions. The biggest one for me right now is can I fit BFG KO2s in 285/65/R18 on the stock rims with NO other modifications.
Regards and blessings, my friend,
David
David! What an awesome surprise to see your post this morning. And of course I am glad to see you have some into the light (though I must say that your LR4 build was pretty sweet.) It is great to have you part of this forum. And it is an awesome forum. It reminds me a lot of the LR4 forum we were on together. Though I would say there is even a great depth and extent of knowledge here in part due to the awesome people on this forum and in part due to the fact that more work can be done on these Land Cruisers. It is also great that you have met
@Markuson. When I came over to this forum Mark reminded me a fair bit of yourself. Very helpful! Knowledgeable. And a bit obsessive with modding his truck.

Seriously, I think Mark often mods his mods. I don't know if there is an inch he hasn't changed except for the roof.
Anyway, great to see you are getting an LC. Your reasons for making the move match mine though I had the additional challenge of needing to two a larger travel trailer. Reliability, simplicity, not as gimmicky as the new Discoverys are. Proven. (Some of the stuff they do to and with these trucks in Australia is nuts. Then there is the guy on the forum from the Middle East who jumps his LC. Seriously. They beef up the suspension then see how high they can jump them. Not my thing but it points to the durability of these vehicles.) And, yes, you can mod them more easily and more effectively than the LR4. Starting with tires.
Anyway, great group here and very glad to see you join. Once you have your new LC, post some pics in the Picture thread. And if you start doing mods, you can post to the What did you do to your ... Or if you plan to do a more extensive build you can create your own own build thread. But be careful. You may follow Mark down that rabbit hole.
