LCer's,

I was able to get a factory Oil bath Air Cleaner and wondering if I should go back to factory. My Weber is a 32 36. I can screw the fuel mixture closed and it still runs. It seems it may have been jetted, but not taking it off to investigate just yet.

So the question, and I've searched, what do most of you prefer; factory rebuild or keep a Weber. Weber run's a bit rich and I have a pressure regulator I can install. Would like to learn the benefits of factory vs. Weber.

Lastly, is this an electric choke? I have a manual cable.

Thanks for your input.

I'm not an expert by any stretch, but I believe that lead is for an electric choke.

I'm VERY interested in the responses you'll get here as I have...wait for it...a Holley Carb on my FJ-45 that the lads down under installed somewhere along the way. Ran beautiful before my tear down. hoping to find the right guy to have it professionally rebuilt.

i had a 32, 36. Didn't care for it. Run a 38 38 on both 60 and 40. Happy with both. That said, i think most will say that a factory rebuilt by one of several members on here are the best (@Trollhole ) being being one builder.

You can also find an adapter that would allow you to use the oil bath filter on a weber carb

i ran weber 38s for years and thought i was happy.
true happiness was when the non usa oems started showing up, and showed me how crappy my good running webers were.
i was going to sell them, but decided not to put that weak sauce on anyone.

Factory Aisin every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Brian is correct, it's a fuel shutoff solenoid. Webbers are very good carbs if properly tuned. It helps if you are British.:p

what does the oil bath air cleaner look like? the early ones were for the single barrel sd40 carb, which would not work on a later 2 barrel carb.

I have a 2/78 and I have a cable running to my Weber. I think factory is linkage tho, anyone confirm this and point me to a source for throttle linkage?

Now that is an interesting approach. I am debating go factory or go Weber, but this would give me the best of both. Thanks

Will take a picture and post..You may be right, can always modify!

Attached is the Air cleaner I found. 2.25 inch diameter (5.7CM) for the carb opening. Will check the dimensions of the 2 barrel 38 / 38.

negative on it being an oil bath.

Thanks Brian,

Not sure what you mean. I open up the cleaner, no paper element and oil in the bath, with a re-usable filter. Is there something I'm missing? Pretty sure it's an oil filter, I could be wrong, it's happened before. But with oil in the filter with a re-usable element? Let me know. Just want to understand factory vs.Weber.
