We’ll it’s official!

Bought my new 1984 FJ60 in Austin, TX on Saturday evening and my brother and I are currently road-tripping it back to NC. After picking up the truck Saturday around dinner, we headed straight to Houston to meet up with some friends from SAS5 and did some work on the rig and gave it a once over. Shoutout @js0k and @HemiAlex for the hospitality.

After spending the night in Houston we took off headed to *hopefully* Birmingham. Currently just outside Baton Rouge where we will grab some dinner and finish out the drive to Birmingham area. Then Monday will be the trip back to NC.

Truck is running well with some things that are needing to be addressed but no show stoppers. Just an inconsistent clutch pedal, even after a couple bleeding sessions and a occasional squeaky belt.

Assuming the truck does well back to NC, it may make the trip to the barn this weekend. TBD on that.

Excited for the new project!

Thanks! Forgot the meeting was Wednesday. Will definitely make it to that with the new rig.

Stopped in Meridian, MS last night after a delay due to an alternator that seemed to not be charging. Opened the hood and threatened it with a replacement and it quickly got back to charging. Still going strong at 13.8-14v this morning which is a good thing since my RockAuto replacement has the wrong pulley on it and I don’t have an impact handy.

Hit the road at 8:30am and are about 75 miles outside Atlanta. Been averaging around 11-12mpg at 70mph.

@Hokie LX Maybe try your insurance company? Do you or your passenger have AAA?

We do but was hoping for a U-Haul or local option first since that’ll likely be a long wait. That’s the plan in about 10 minutes though if we can’t find another option.

Made it home. Unfortunately we were nursing a dying alternator/battery the last couple hours before this issue so we couldn’t bump start it with the starter to get it home.

AAA came through for us though. New slave and master cylinder will be here Thursday. There’s still hope it may make it to the Christmas party, otherwise the less exciting 100 will be there.

Need more pics!!

I'll get some today. Going to clean her up a bit.

Working on tires this morning. Got some 70 series steelies on order and grabbing some 255/85/16 Yoko Geolander G003's this afternoon.

Some pics before cleanup. Basically as received minus our gear from the trip and cabelas seat covers removed. Going to clean it up today.

Tires ordered this morning and she’s already plated. Lots of parts to still order.

Awesome. Will clean up really nice.

What tires and size did you order?

Are those 2 - 2 inch receivers welded to the front bumper?

I went with 255/85/16 tires.

Yeah they are receivers. The truck was a deer lease truck for the last 10 years so the owner had a deer feeder on the front that went into the receiver hitch. Then he just put another on the other side for symmetry.
