Wax for Scratches?

I have a dark green 80. A couple of weeks ago we were lost - errrr I mean exploring some new trails, and a side effect of ATV's came into play. A lot of former 4wd trails turned into ATV trails, with overgrown brush encroaching onto the trail. I realize a few scratches are okay, but I have more than a few...

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has found a good wax or treatment to fill them in? I've heard of Rain-X and Nano Wax. Has anyone tried either of those and how did they work?

Meguiar's Clear Coat Body Scrub Paint Cleaner works pretty well on scratches as well. It won't remove them in their entirety, but it will make them less noticeable.

I use 3M swirl mark remover for dark cars followed up with a coat of wax. The SMR does a good job of removing and filling in fine scratches but won't work for heavy marks. It contains fillers that go into the scratches and make them appear less visable. I use a Porter Cable orbital buffer that makes the job a lot easier then doing it by hand.

I guess I'm dreaming of some sort of filler - I definitely am not going to decrease the thickness of the rest of the paint, but that sounds like the best cosmetic option. A transparent filler wouldn't work, and I'm not sure about the color match etc. of a combination filler/wax, although it would be better than what's there.

Of course I don't want to get rid of all of them because I don't want people to think I don't wheel it

Yeah, I second both Meguirs Scratch-X and 3M swirl remover. The Megquirs is just easier to get around here. You won't be decreasing the thickness of the paint on the entire body, just a little around the scratch--and even then, it's mostly just rounding the edges on the scratch to make it less visible. Use straight strokes in the same direction as the scratch. Try that first, then get back to us.

For waxing, I've used Zaino on my other cars and it works well but far faster, easier and cheaper is Meguirs NXT Tech Wax.

I've used G27 on small scratches, but then again, my beast is white. Product was recommended by a friend of mine who is also a manager of a local Kragen store. Yes - I know, it's almost infomercial type of product, but it worked on mine.

I have had good luck with "Color Back" by turtle wax (orange bottle) but I too Like Brent have a white finish

Actually G27 was an infomercial product, but it works well. I used to use it on my Green Grand Cherokee when I got it 'Arizona Pinstriped'.

Be careful with Color Back. It is not for clear coats. I ruined the paint on my Toyota pickup with that stuff. This was a few years ago. Maybe the new Color Back is okay. Read the can!!!

We use meguairs swirl remover 2.0 for most vehicles, works great for dark colored vehicles. if this wont remove it 3m has a great line of buffing products that are readily available. I personally dont care for random orbit sanders or buffers.
I use a 7" dewalt sander with a wool wheel for most products (meguars sw2.0 works particularly well) and a composite foam pad for the 3m stuff.
I agree with juk here though you are seriously chasing your tail as you will just get more scratches, unless it goes throught he clear coat completely let it be.

I got some Zymöl today. It works pretty well - a lot better than the super duper new formula Turtle Wax I used last week - of course it could be just that it was the second coat...

Anyway, I didn't read it well before I got it home - it's one of those "apply 3 or 4 times a year. Screw that. If I have to apply it more than once a year it's ancient history. So, I figure I'll try a coat of ... the orange bottle stuff, the name escapes me at the moment... I'll see if it'll seal in the Zymöl.
