In rebuilding my 82 2F @ a snails pace, I'm thinking it would be a good idea to replace the water pump. I'm assuming it is original. It never had a problem that I was aware of. Is aftermarket ok? Or should I stick with Toyota. Any first hand experiences on this part? Thanks.

I did find out from the dealer that Toyota only offers a reman, if that makes any difference.

Reman from a reputable supplier, you will be fine.

Or call C-Dan, bet he can set you up.

Or...........

it is a brand new water pump MARKED as a reman so that they don't have to offer as long of a warranty.

It could happen.;)

Best

Update. I ended up buying a parts store pump with a lifetime warranty and it has been leaking, seeping fluid ever since. I'm going back to the drawing board on this. Checked with the dealer again and they still only offer reman pumps. Does anyone know where to find a new AISIN water pump? And while we are at it, does it matter what kind of antifreeze I put in? Yellow and Green are half the price of Toyota Red. Thanks again.

lifetime warranty? why not get a new one with the warranty? my aftermarket works just fine for 3 years now

where is it leaking from?

I could, but time is more of a premium and I would think going new with an AISIN gives me the best shot at reliability.

Buy a Toyota one.

Exchange the crapy parts store one & use it for a trail spare.

My parts store said they would be happy to refund my money on it.

In that case take the $$ & run.

Reman 2F water pump from Toyota is BS.

The Toyota 2F water pump is a new Aisin unit. I have one on my 2F that I am building up.

Listen to what Mark said.

Just out of curiosity, how are you able to tell it is new and where did you get that information?

The part number is not designated with -84 at the end which means "reman"

Every single one in every OEM box I have looked into has been a new Aisin unit.

Thanks for the explanation.

The ones I find humorous are the ones that end in -86

;p

cruisergeek humor!

beno, what's the water pump part # you have? Thanks. Dealer's part#is coming up with a -84 that supercedes to a -77. Thanks.

16110-61081-77 (8/1980-8/1987)

Basically the same water pump through the end of 2F importation for the US market.

You'll also need the paper gasket: 16271-60012

As you can see, these pumps are not remans or rebuilts.

They are new.

Very slightly off topic: does anyone have any info w/pics showing how to best block off that oil cooler exit. The above faq link only mentions some options, but no pics on how it was done.

TIA
