New noise in engine compartment of my 77 FJ40:

Took a 29 mile drive this morning, 45mph through local pecan orchards. Popped the hood when we got home and took the video.

What I noticed:
engine temp didn't reach the halfway mark
the fan is spinning with a slight wobble

Suspect #1 is water pump

Please give it a listen and what it sounds like to you.

The video is listed as private. When you grab the fan does it wobble? If so the pump is likely bad.

Oops, sorry about that. Just now changed it to Unlisted. Hope that works, if not I have one more option. God, I am so new to this video world of YouTube. I'll grab the fan in the morning and report. Thanks!

Mine mostly run at that spot on the gauge. Stereo can help identify location of noise (your ears) mono from the computer speakers not so helpful.

You have the shaft into the water pump - if its real loose good chance it will be now or soon leaking out of the weep hole.
Then you have the pulley and fan end. Not a fan of those fan clutches. Check the bolts for tightness, wiggle pulley and fan separately.

I hear some ticking - check your valve lash. While cover is off, fire it up and watch the rockers. I had #1 E rocker pivot on the shaft instead of just rotate on a used engine I bought. I think it sounded like yours but that was back in like 2005. Shaft was worn on the bottom allowing it to pivot sideways. New to me rockers and shaft fixed that issue.

I hear two types of sounds that bother me, the first one is the rattling, possibly a bad bearing somwhere...maybe loose hardware...possibly the throwout bearing bad, pressure plate loose(probably not but still give it a check). The other is the ticking...what Charlie said.
Also check the fan clutch, I think if the shaft on the water pump was loose, it would probably be leaking.

Just checked the fan - solid, no wobble. Later today I'm gonna remove both belts from the water pump pulley and check the fan again.

Removed belts before lunch. This is what I found:

Fan is firmly attached to the pulley. Pulley, and I assume the pump shaft, are kinda wobbly, and some antifreeze leaked out the mount while I was wiggling the fan.
Time to order a new pump?

Before I order a new water pump assembly and a tube of FIPG, is there anything else I will need?
