My 82 FJ40 has the OEM winch and I am thinking of replacing it for a brand spanking new Warn Winch. Will it bolt directly If I remove my winch or do I need a new winch channel ?
What warn winch do you recommend for a easy installation?
You need to post some pictures of your current winch. The most popular winch for a 40 series is the Warn 8274. I haven't seen one mounted on an OEM bumper without some serious reinforcement. It can certainly be done, and I would recommend mounting the fairlead above the bumper, not on it with the cable running through the bumper.
being in Kuwait you may be able to get the oem 12v winch... its like the warn8274... here it is with oem bumper support pieces... or get the 8274 and use the support pieces and roller
warn 8274 I made this warn plate fit between the 40s frame rails mounting the fairlead above the front bumper blocks to much airflow across the radiator in my opinion so I ended up lowering it down as seen in later photos. the main support comes from the two 1/4 steel "wings" or plates welded on the side that secure under the factory tow hooks. on top of that it is mounted flush against the factory bumper.
in the US a fairly common mount for the 8274 back in the day was a Warn mounting plate(for a Jeep),this was what most dealers/aftermarket used when installing a Warn, my 82 Fj40 had this mount installed when it was bought new.(the Warn pictured is a newer model 8274)
