Hello all,

Long time lurker first time poster. I decided to try my hand at writing up my install of the Warn VR Series 10,000 lb winch with a synthetic line. I installed this winch on my ARB Deluxe Bull Bar after purchasing the winch at a 4 Wheel Parts store near me. Neither the employees at 4 Wheel Parts nor the ARB rep I spoke to on the phone knew whether or not these winches fit into the bull bar. I can safely say that they do!

After initial measurements of the clearance from my bumper to my grill I was under the impression I needed to remove the control pack and relocate it somewhere else. This is easily done with the VR series winch and illustrated in the instruction manual thoroughly.

It turns out however, that after fitment testing (I didn't remove the bumper for this install, just strapped the winch to the bumper and went after it) you in fact don't have to remove the control pack and just decided to do extra work for myself .

After following the install instructions for a feet forward install with the new Warn fair-lead everything went as expected. I just wanted to post this up as a definitive answer that the VR10 Warn Winch does install into the ARB Bull Bar with no alterations. Here are the installed photos:

I'm glad I am able to contribute even just a little information to this great forum as I have frequently gone to it for information and advice regarding my 60 series. This is my first vehicle build and I am trying to learn as I go with installs and repairs. Up next on my agenda is the wiper linkage overhaul. Wish me luck!

I don't have permission to view media with this album. why did you decide to go with VR10?

Sorry about that. Still figuring the site. Should be visible now.

I chose the VR10 mainly because I often travel with a fully loaded sprinter camper and if I intend to pull them out at any point I wanted to be more comfortable with the 10. The weight combined with the plan of hitting some BLM land this winter led me to go up. The best part is the price of these and it wasn't breaking the bank for more peace of mind.

I too bought a new arb bumper this year. I went with the warn 8724. I was impressed with the speed and power. With a 150 ft of cable you can rig a 2/1 haul with it and nearly double the rated capacity. I think it's rated for 9k lbs. It was much tighter fitting between the bumper and the grill. I could barely get a cover to go over it. Reading up on the differences in winch lines, looks like synthetic and cable both have some advantages and disadvantages.

Yeah, I've had plenty of vehicle recovery experiences and definitely know my gears limits (and my own). I was a young jeep guy once upon a time and did/witnessed some pretty dumb stuff in regards to recovery. I have learned the proper and less than proper methods at this point and look forward to (hopefully) never needing this winch.

@pandasfj I agree, I wanted to keep as much airflow as possible getting to the engine, little did I know nothing would change at all haha

The jack up front works great for now using grade 8 hardware, but I plan to move to the rear when I get an aftermarket bumper.

Thanks for the info and the photos, your rig looks great. I am currently installing the same winch on my ARB combo bar, and I have a question regarding the position of the clutch, the ARB installation manual asks to rotate the clutch (144 degrees I believe), but I see that you have it set up exactly the same way it came from the box. Is it not necessary to rotate the clutch? I assume it probably is just for access to the clutch, and if so I'd rather leave it the way it is. Thanks!

Hey Meluna, I assumed just the same and spoke with an ARB rep on installing the winch. He didn't say that it was necessary and there were no instructions to do so in the WARN instructions. I've used it 3 times now without rotating the clutch and it works great. Easy to access to lever as well. My only hangups sometimes is getting the controller plugged in the correct way but a little more use and that won't be a problem at all.

I'd be leary about pulling another vehicle out with a winch. Better to get a snatch strap and yuck them out.

If possible, I use a snatch strap too. It is way quicker and easier. However, there are lots of situations when you can't use a strap and out comes the winch. And why would you have an issue using a winch on another vehicle? That's what any tow / recovery company would do.

I too bought a new arb bumper this year. I went with the warn 8724.

This is my favorite winch. Lots of line, lots of speed, lots of pull. And you don't have those stupid crossbars that cause issues if you have to pile the cable at one end on side-pulls. Great, great winch.

Thanks for the reply, I’m hopefully finishing the new bumper and winch install tonight.

Do you have pics of your set up of the new ARB bumper and Warn 8274? I'm considering an 8274 but not sure about the ARB bumper.

I’ve got the old style vr10000s and I had to trim my original style arb bumper to fit the fairlead. The bumper opening would have rubbed the line had I not done this.

Thanks for this post. I've been debating on which Warn to go with and you made it a lot easier.

Question: Did you need a mounting kit of any type?
