I'm looking at two used warn 8274s that seem to be in decent shape. On one the cover has the plug in the red "W" but the other winch does not have this feature. It has a long cord with female plug at the end. Does this tell me anything about the year models of the two winches? Thanks in advance for any input.

The plugs changed over the years, but AFAIK, all 8274s have a socket in the solenoid cover that the remote plugs into. Early winches have a 3 wire controller with a 4 prong plug and later controllers have a 5 wire controller. If there is no solenoid pack, it is not a 8274.

yep, thats an older 8274 that someone rewired. I'd guess that its from the 80s, but if you email warn with the serial # they can tell you when it was made. Looks to be in fairly good shape and for 450 I grab it and never look back...assuming it runs and pulls of course.

I'm no longer going to be able to purchase this winch due to personal reasons so if anyone is looking, this winch is a steal! I actually think that he wants 350 for it but I am not sure, you should talk to the owner. According to the owner it works perfectly. If this new issue had not developed, I would have purchased it. Just curious, what is the average price expected to pay for a good used 8274?
