I have an old 8274. I wired in a Warn Contactor for the 9.5xp winch (part number 98381) and a Warn Wireless Remote (Part number 76080). It works but the Solenoid clicks loudly repeatedly while operating in or out. The receiver for the wireless remote is sending a pulsed signal to the solenoid causing it to switch on and off quickly when operating the winch motor. Is this normal? It seems like it would be really hard on the solenoid. I have a feeling I have something wired incorrectly.

I think pulsing is bad. Maybe the transmitter or receiver is marginal. Try new fresh batteries in the transmitter. I bought a very good small battery tester because a lot of the little cells are weak or doa. I have good luck with ebay for little batteries. Like 50 for the same price as 2 at Home Despot that are usually weak from sitting on the shelf for years.

I'm not a big fan of cordless remotes, might be ok if you have a corded back up so it can work when the batteries go bad.

Batteries in the remote was my first thought. I replaced them this morning, no change, I will put a multimeter on them though. They are small 12v batteries. The remote isn’t indicating low battery. It has a blinking led low battery indicator. It is such a consistent pulse that it seems like it is intentional or at least caused by something consistent. I thought it might be interference. It occurs when the 40 is running or not. It also occurs at my house and when in other locations. My plan originally was to have in cab controls in the dash or console and a remote.

Its a litigious world out there - manufactures don't want to be libel for product failure in DIY application that they have no control over.

Look at all the electric battery fires in cars, bicycles, scooters. Haven't about a lot of phones shorting out lately, but there was a rash of exploding pagers a little while back.

i would assume this has something to do with the 5 wire vs 3 wire thing.
i would go back through your wiring and check the threads in the winch section talking about the 5 wire remote on the contactor.

im also in the "i don't really trust wireless" especially for winch control. it's super easy to just wire up in cab controls.

I know this post is nearly a year old, but I had the same problem as the OP and my google searching led me to this post.

In hopes of helping someone in the future I thought I’d post my solution. I’m NOT an electronics guru, so I’m sure there are cheaper, simpler more elegant solutions; but this worked for me.

Anyway, I’m in the process of restoring/modernizing a 1975 era 8274. I wanted to use “Warn” parts as much as possible which led me to purchase the way overpriced Warn wireless remote. I was at a loss when I experienced the same contactor “pulsing” as the OP when using the wireless remote, yet the wired remote worked fine.

This amazon “relay” is able to smooth out whatever pulses the Warn wireless remote delivers. Wired DC-DC 10Amp Isolated Solid State Relay Module, SSR in 3-32VDC Out 5-30VDC, for Raspberry-Pi Arduino ESP32 PLC MCU DSP: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09T3RT5MG?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
Yes, I had to use 2 of them, one for “In” and one for “Out”. Although I also wired mine for in-cab control, effectively the output from the wireless receiver goes to the “In+” on the relay and the Output or “Vout” goes to the contactor.
