How far should the warm pull knob pull out during normal operation??? mine only pulls out about 3/8" and I'm trying to see if I can get a little more heat flowing through the heater. the arm on the valve is almost to the stop when pushed in should this be further away, it looks like there is a lot of rod left on the valve and such a short travel seems strange.

Without measuring, I'd say there should be about 1-1/4" of shaft visible at full pull. My cable linkage sometimes gets hung up inside the dash and requires that I snake my hand behind it and push from the back. Or, your valve could be frozen at less than full pull.

there is a lot of shaft showing already with the knob tight against the dash board. I
did move the valve rod a little bit, about 1/2" or so with the cable disconnected.

How much of the valve shaft should be sticking out of the valve when the knob is pushed tight up against the dash?

The more I think about it, it might be in the full open position already or pretty close. There is a lot of rod showing and the coolant lines to the rear cooler do get hot any time the 40 is running. I don't know maybe that's all the heat it cranks out.

I use my truck in the snow and I have found the single heater in mine more than up to the task. If I leave it on full noise it gets too hot.

Some pictures of fully closed and fully open on your truck would help.
