This is a set I just received to refurbish, ASCO manual hubs (look at the lettering on the center of the dial it says "ASCO" instead of "AISIN") which were on the early Toyotas and not something you see many of these days as they are getting harder and harder to come by. Anyway, I thought they turned out nice and hope the customer is happy with them.

As I received them, nasty, covered with RTV and greasy. The faces also had quite a few of the big spring tabs busted off so the faces had to be replaced.

Right after a good cleaning and blasting.

I noticed you are using different hardware on them than factory, are they stainless? they look like they have the washer attached to the bolts?

Have you figured out a way to straighten/hammer the main body around the 6 holes that bolt it onto the axle?

What I mean to say is, when you remove the hubs, you have to get the damn cone washers loose, easiest way is to tap the chrome looking body near the cone's till they become loose. This deforms the base of the chrome hub slightly, although still fully functional, cosmetically it aint as pretty.

Do you have a method of getting the soft metal back into shape, or any feedback about that?

I have a couple hubs on the counter in my garage right now (4runner +60 series AISIN's I picked up at the wreckers) and was just wondering if there was a :cone shaped tool to hammer into the 6 holes to try and get the shape close to perfect. I ended up just taking a hammer, and tapping the high spots till they looked a bit better shape.

No need to ever strike the manual hub bodies to remove the cone washers. Use a brass drift with hammer to strike the wheel hub or the hub stud. Use a pick or small flat head to spin cone washers. I've removed literally hundreds and never had to damage the hub bodies.

I do my own whenever I pull 'em apart to tear into the axle, but I had to chuckle when I saw noticed you went with the red on black color scheme on all the ones you've rebuilt. When I painted mine, just to be unique, I went with black on red instead of the gold/bronze on black that my 62's hubs originally had.

This tool removes cone washers in seconds even the toughest ones come off quickly with zero damage.

Prices vary and are listed on the website. Link in the first post and in my signature.

I stock stock Toyota red and black colors. Anything else you'd need to pay for a 1lb of powder which is about $15/lb but you can pick from just about any color your want.

This is how I got them and this is after disassembly and sitting in the parts washer soaking a few days. Note the stuff on the left dial lower left corner. That is/was a dirt dobber nest.

Cleaned, blasted, degreased and dried.

Hub assembly disassembled, cleaned and degreased. Hub bodies need to be cleaned, degreased and polished.

Hub bodies after cleaning, degreasing and polishing.

Hub dials and faces hot from the oven. The color changes slightly as they cool down.

Cleaned, reassembled, polished and regreased properly. New o-rings, gaskets and bolt included in the refurbish.
