Well, I figured that since I sold my LV recently, I've decided to startup my 40 buildup thread :)

We bought this FJ40 about 10 months ago....but haven't had much time to post up photos, so we'll be doing some catch-up on here.....

We purchased this 74 from a guy here in CO....say's his dad bought it new...but who knows!
Needless to say, it was seriously rough with rust throughout the entire body....but she did startup and run!

Thanks to GR8FUL (Abe) here in CO, I purchased his old tub along with some new side panels. We had to weld-in a replacement rear section of the frame as the 74 was completely cooked-

The buildup plan:

Name: Voodoo Blue '74
Drivetrain: 2F with a 3-spd trans
Wheels: 2002 Tacoma TRD Alloys
Tires: 265/75/16 Firestone Destination MTs (currently)
Top: Soft, undecided about which brand
Seating: Front - Undecided
Back- folding 3rd row from a '05 Highlander!!
Rollbar- Standard FJ40 Rollbar

We're going to make this a driver....not a serious rock-crawler as the funds aren't really available to go crazy with.

I can't find any pics from when we purchased the 40....but here's where we are today-

Just got it back from paint...so it's officially Toyota VOODOO Blue :)

Some of the frame and drivetrain-

It'll have a rebuilt Weber 38/38 carb on a standard 2F intake.
6-1 headers (chrome for the moment)
DUI Mechanical advanced distributor

Dan-

HEY, THANKS FOR THE 1st reply!!!!!!

:)

Here's some of me and my little helper- going crazy with the spray paint!! :)

Gas tank had no leaks....so from the sandblaster- straight to prime and paint!

I had the heater core pressure tested and a few areas soldered on it....so now it's back in it's spot! It was full of mouse-nest crap too....so that was all kinda fun to get cleaned out!

Also....I found this AWESOME paint from Krylon.....it bonds directly to any plastic (as it's made for outside patio furniture)

Does a tremendous job...and leaves a really great utility-like finish. I used it on the dash and the glove-box door too!

Good stuff at only about $4.00 from ACE Hardware

For some reason, the pics are coming thru kinda grainy.....not sure why that is!
They're taken with a 6MP digital camera....

Any thoughts??

Here's one of the finished Speedo-

I was SOOOO tempted to roll the dial back....but I decided not to, even though it has a newer motor in it.

I love the color- I am thinking of painting my 40 the same color. How did you apply the paint?

Why the 3 speed? Especially for a DD:confused:

I like that silver.... I used the Duplicolor metalcast which is probably close to the same with the shimmer...I had to restrain myself from getting carried away with it after i realized I painted the brake, clutch and gas pedals... I did my gauge panel, grab handle, and transfer case lever in the silver too.... I like it....

Love the blue too!

That Blue is voodoo! Seriously nice color:clap::clap:

Looks great must be the help!

Don't mean to echo everyone else, but that color looks great.
I'm looking forward to seeing it all put together.

I like the blue color that you chose. The blue that I used is somewhat lighter. My fenders and a few smaller parts have been rattle canned. How did you paint the larger parts on your 40. Whatever you did it looks like they turned out really nice.

Thanks you guys for the compliments!!!

The color is from a 2007 FJC - actually named Voodoo blue :)

I've made application at our local DMV to have the license plate show " VUDUBLU" .....we'll see if we get it- could be fun!

The paint is a two - stage base/clear paint from PPG.

It's the Deltron DBC line....with a Delta Clear-

3 coats of color and 2 coats of clear.

I've got some wetsanding to do....to get some ripples out on the dash....but thats about it.

With the weather being hot and then really chilly....this was a hard week to get paint done!

I should be able to get the tub bolted down this AM....

Any ideas for the front seats?? I came across a set of tan leather buckets from a 2004 Trailblazer....power everything and the price ($200) is right in the ballpark.

I want something a lil' more comfy than the original seats.

I'm open for suggestions!!

Why the 3 speed? Especially for a DD:confused:

Degnol-

The 3-speed is the only one I have :) I have been on the look-out for a 4-speed, but I need to get this on the road.....especially after 8 months of just sitting in my garage!!

My plan was to put a 4-speed in....but I haven't been able to look find one for cheap- especially one thats in good shape.

And yes....the 'help' sure is quality!! He wants nothing more than to work on the Cruiser in the garage with me----absolutely love it!
