Well, it's been a month, and I haven't posted up any progress :(

Given the wiring harness has a few weak parts....I've been trying to isolate a few circuits- which isn't easy to do without a diagram.

I went on eBay and bought a 'blown-up' harness diagram for around $20.00

This is AWESOME! - it's for my year, (74) and it is correct as far as I can tell.

eBay Store - Prosperos Wiring Diagrams: BMW Motorcycles, MGB, MGC, Other MG, HD XL Series - Sportsters

Check out his eBay store for the proper diagram for your year- so much easier to read over the FSM's.

Anyways....I'll let you know once I get the dash installation complete, as I've got to work on the 12V output on the dash later today.

More updates in a bit-

Well....45 days and no update-posts...we've been pretty busy 'round here :)

In the past month I've gotten a good bit completed, and I'm out in the garage tonite (FREEZING) getting some progress made.

I'll post up some pics later tonite.

Keep up the great work Jeff! I am in the process of painting my 69 fj40 blue. I am debating on Medium blue, Zenith blue, or Voodoo blue. Not sure if there is a difference in the Medium or Zenith. Your pics look awesome. Right now I am leaning towards Voodoo. We will see. Thanks anyway for the motivation!! Mark:beer:

Nice to meet you and the kids yesterday Jeff! Your 40 looks awesome!! Can't wait to see it driving.

Wow....over a year ago was the most recent post on here about VooDoo's progress.

Well, for those that are still interested, I've made some real progress recently.

I've taken some time during work-hours when I'm not slammed to make some progress on the build-up.

In the past 13 months, I've taken the truck to my warehouse in Denver and started finishing up the loose-ends, only to find myself needing more parts.

So, I bought a '76 FJ40 from a mechanic just a few blocks away. It was a runner, with the 2F and 4-speed along with the disk brakes.

I've swapped a ton of parts, gaslines, brakebooster and the like into the VooDoo unit.

After a ton of long hours, I finally got to hear the 2F come to life!

My dad and I worked late into the night to get it fired up. She took a while to get 'er to actually start, but it worked like a charm!

I've got the HEI ignition off of a guy on 'mud, can't remember the name, but thank you! It worked after talking with Hugh @ SafariLTD in Grand Junction as to some wiring details.

I'll post-up some pics as soon as I can! Hoping to have it on the road this week!

Tires....had to have new tires and wheels- that's a MUST!

I had a set of TRD Ivan Stewart wheels from a Tundra that looked pretty sweet, so I thought I'd throw them on here.

Well, we all know that the front wheel hub won't clear most newer rims....so I had mine machined out to match the hub.

The guys at Precision Wheel & Tire in Englewood, CO did an awesome job milling out the center, and they fit like a glove!

Now, onto the tires.....

Looking on 'Mud, I found TreadWright!

They're a re-treading facility -used to be in Berthoud, CO....but have relocated to Edgemont, SD.

They specialize in passenger and light-truck tires - so I thought I'd do some more research!

I spoke with Elodie @ TreadWright, and she set me up with a set of BFG casings with a tread pattern very similar to the Goodyear MTR's.

Yes, they're much cheaper than new tires, and I'm saving the environment a few tires at a time!

It took a good bit of weights to balance them out, and make sure if you order from TreadWright, that they are "STATIC" Balanced when your shop mounts 'em on your rims. This is how they're balanced in the manufacturing process....and it worked out just right when we did ours.

I ordered the 285/75/16 - 10ply tire, named the Guard Dog MTs, and they look fantastic - only 2 days after ordering, they arrived on my dock in Denver!

I couldn't wait to fit on the TRD rims....and man, they look sick!!! 33.5" inflated and ready to rock n roll!

I can't even describe the quality of the retreading they did at TreadWright. Here's their # 877-439-0759 and talk to Elodie - she's kick ass and did an awesome job!

Pics to come shortly-

Can't wait to see those Ivan's on that 40. I've got a set laying in the garage and keep wondering how they would look. Mine have corrosion on the outer rim which happened to many of these wheels. I'm thinking I will paint the outer rim black and see how that looks. Pictures please !!

Well, I'm trying to upload a bunch of photos from the warehouse, but it's taking a few minutes to upload....while iPhoto is doing it's thing...here's the update.

I ordered the deluxe Old Man Emu suspension for the 40 on Thursday from Man-A-Fre. They cut me a helluva deal on it, as their pricing was already a great deal - compared to what I found elsewhere on the web and thru the local vendor in Denver.

Nothing personal about not buying it locally, it just would've taken 3-4 days to get it, and I didn't wanna wait :)

I shipped it on our LAX truck from Man-A-Fre, and it arrived unscathed this morning in Denver.

TOTALLY AWESOME!! I'm totally psyched about it, as it has everything that I could possibly need for the suspension. I decided to upgrade the brakelines to the stainless ones from MAF. There is no sence in having to bleed the brake system with old rubber lines, and what better time to upgrade?

I'll post up the photos in just a second.

I'll be swapping the 76's front disk brake axle onto the Voodoo 40, but that's not until the Superbowl kick-off....since I'm not a huge Football fan, I figured I could get some work on the 40 while the family watches the game :)

Does anyone know how to resize and upload iphone photos to Mud from a Macbook Pro?? ? This is driving me nuts!

I'm gonna post it up, that I just paid Woody $20 for my silver star :) Now the photos should work!

Thanks guys!

Jeff:

Glad it's getting some work done!

I'm back to being on Reserve in Denver most of the time, so feel free if you want a hand with anything. I get used rarely, so I have ample time to kill waiting for them to call me...

Dan

Here's a few photos from the past couple of weeks' work.

Anyone have any clue where my other photos went?? I uploaded them to Mud when I started the tread a year + ago!

That's annoying - I buy a new star, and my photos go away.

Here's a shot - don't know where that wheel centercap went...know it's around here somewhere!!

The Green Goblin (Donor vehicle) has been taken down to - well, not much left of 'er.

I'm going to swipe the 4spd and the xfer case out of it, and throw it in Voodoo...but I've gotta get the pressure washer out and clean up the 30+ years of gunk under 'er.

Maybe do that tomorrow during the SuperBowl. :)

Here's a close-up of the TRD wheel for Mossman40 . .. . they'll require a 1" spacer on your 40, as the steering links rub on the rim. Even with the 1+" of spacing, she looks sharp! Not too bad of an offset with the TRD wheels.
