I called him. Its got a running 3b with 400,000 miles and a good transmission. Comes with a good frame and good body but I understand that the frame and body that the motor and running gear are in is rotten. 1986 BJ70 he says, sounds like you need a big flatbed to get it all home.
Saw the ad for that when it was considerably more money...5k or so?

Guessing the "good" one isn't that good.

If I was on the mainland I'd go look, but getting it home would be a hassle. Maybe worth it, but still a hassle.

Still on the hunt. Can't find the ones above that were listed on f-book. Maybe they sold already. That's the sort of thing I'm looking for however. Please let me know if anyone sees anything.
Can’t find it now either. I’ll keep watching

Looking for some dock floatation. Or even a cheap dock. Kinda want to get a proper dock going on the pond, but not badly enough to spend 2k on something.

Or even .5k for that matter

Being married to a fisheries employee, open foam is a no no.

Large pvc with end caps could work, Rain barrels or the smaller barrels would work too, but I'm holding off on the big blue barrels in case something better pops up.

You definitely need one.

Here’s what I’m picturing for you It could also double as a scenic guest cottage.

I might be able to get you a couple white plastic 45 gallon barrels. We deal with 10 foot long 16 - 20 pvc pipe at work. I keep telling them I want any of the unused pieces in the yard. Wanted to use four 16 inchers for a dock on the pond out back my place. But they aren't cheep and the boss doesn’t want to let them go just yet.. someday I will be out there and find them in a bin going to the dump.

dock flotation works best when it’s not floating high up on the water, rocks too much. For example a water logged log dock will be miles more stable then a dock on barrels. If you use something like big pvc or barrels fill them mostly up with water before sealing them up.

Yeah that's the plan. I'll socially isolate with a proper moat.

Nice that you can dial barrels in to level it out too.
Probably the most likely option. Lots of them around for 30-40 bucks.
I just know the second I go buy them, something else will turn up.

Spent a winter building all new docks at the boatyard I worked at. Used some fencing wire and the stick welder as a ghetto hotknife to cut the foam.
Almost worked too well. .

There's a slight chance I may have something but can't say until I speak to other staff about them.

And by "open foam" do you mean the old white tiny glued together bits type, or would a single blue piece of foam be okay?

Yeah the white ball foam is a hard no. That stuff is awful, but I think even the closed cell blue or pink has to be wrapped now.

swmbo's job was licencing in aquaculture , so she's a little particular about not breaking the rules she helped write and enforce

Barrels are probably best bet, but there's other things out there like poly tanks etc that can work.

Hell, I could probably get away with having it fixed. Not like I have much tidal range. :hillbilly:

I have some days off coming up in a couple weeks. Might just grab some lumber and see what happens.

I’ve always wanted a street legal one like it.
Yeah me too. I had a bug in high school. They were still $500 cars then not overpriced collectors items so they were fun to mess with. Used to go to the big VW meets at the speedway every year, and met a guy who had a buggy that he put a nitrous kit in.
It would lift the front tires even in third gear. It was fawking terrifying. Hard enough keeping the front wheels on the ground in one of those as it is. 😲
buy a Subaru

Apples and oranges.

Unless you mean to take the boxer engine out of a subaru car to put into a vw buggy.

Had a Subaru Brat for a while... if that’s what a rail is like, I’d pass.

I’m thinking 4 wheeled Motorcycle with a solid cage to protect me from loosing another knee.

Trade? I picked this 255/85R16 as a spare. On paper it’s a 33.5/10R16... a very close match to my 33/10.50.

As you can see it’s bigger. More like 34.5” compared to my 33 aka 32” tire. So I’ll like just use it till I can trade it for a 32-33" high tire.... preferably a 16" rim. It’s not like I ever use a spare... it’s been 20 years since I didn’t just air up when I got a flat.

@GTSSportCoupe do you have a 33” tire to trade for a 34.5” BFG M/T that’s never seen the road?

I run that size of Toyo MT's. If I had a 33x10.5 I'd trade, but are you looking for a matching tire for the ones you're currently running or just a "get you home" spare?

Don’t really care about matching so much. Given it’s a BFG M/T and I’m running ATs and all. I don’t want to go from a near zero mile tire to something worn out. Perhaps in 8-10 years when my current tires are done I’ll switch to 16s all around. Hard to say for sure what’ll be up in 2030.

I’ve thrown it on the spare tire rack for now. Overall it looks much better there than the 33x12.50 I had there. The rim has more backspacing than my others... so I might sort out a 1/4” spacer to adjust the way it sits. I also still need to check if 4” BS 16”x8ish” rims will clear the TREs if needed (not tonight).

I don't have anything to trade; sorry. I do currently have a 32" spare, but I'm keeping that for the set of 32" tires I still use.

No worries, I didn't know if you'd kept your smaller tires or not.

I've now checked and the 16" with 4" BS clears the TRE and brake calipers nicely... equally well to the 15" 3.5 BS that the rest are. I think I'll stick with 16" for the spare... unless something better turns up.
