IMHO works as good as the disc / drum setup in the late 80 series .. if well maintained / regulated do a great job .. the downside of the big drums it's the maintenance / mobile parts it's miserable .. much more if we are talking about wet / mud involved ..

count me in .!!!!!!

what I need to do .?

Basically wait until I strip that frame and then decide if you want me to just ship the brake parts or the complete axle ;-)

Deal !

I'm saying that the current LHD VDJ76 has rear drums. I see GRJ76 in LHD with either disc or drum on the rear.

Hello,

I remember reading that red dust damaged the drum brakes on Australian Land Cruisers. Then Toyota switched to disc brakes for that market, which happens to be RHD.

Most LHD markets are not as damaging, so it makes sense for Toyota to keep the rear drum brakes for them.

Stupid question: are drum brakes less complicated to repair? I am not sure about how easy it is to fix them in the middle of nowhere with few tools.

I guess that if you want a LHD VDJ7x, you have to buy it through one of those Middle East dealers, and then import it to your country.

EDIT: I forgot about the 15/25 year rule for Canada and the US, respectively. My bad. A good excuse to move to, say, Costa Rica?

Let's see how it works down here and then you can take the part were he suggest moving to another country that allows the import .. ;)

Did you know Mr. T offer a NAVI system for 7* series .?

At the speed of the average diesel Land Cruiser you'll have plenty of time to glance down at an old fashioned road atlas.
No need for that fancy stuff. :)

*All* of the 70's here are petrol, and trust me, they don't hang around.

Mostly modified and silly horsepower.

NSV are a Dubai company and produce dealer fit, Toyota approved accessories.

Check out the large iPad style system they've produced for the LC200. My friend has one and it's very nice.

did not know ..

I'm still impress what Mr. T do for GCC ..

Hello,

Two things to consider.

From what I have seen on GCC Toyota dealer pages, there are regulations on local components that every car must have in order to be sold in that market. This makes for some really fancy stuff, including electronics, to be available.

It is odd, however, that very few 70 Series there have lockers.

On the other hand, the GCC market is awash with money from oil. They can ask for almost anything, simply because they can afford it. No need to ask the price... Toyota is well aware of that.

Now, if I could get myself one of those LX grade VDJ76/78s and have it imported to my neck of the woods...

Hmmm, sure. We're all oil rich o_O

The reason , or at least 1 good one , for not putting lockers and turbo in African and ME markets , is the local drivers attitude.
The 1HZ , is a slow but very robust horse .
You kill it only if you run without oil.
Otherwise , it will run for ages .
1HDT ,is still robust , but not to that lever of care , or uncare .

Lockers , same thing , very useful , but must be used adeguatly , this is not common in Africa nor in ME .
So Toyota has decided to be wise , avoid the problem.
Not giving a gun to pay to the young boy .

Just my 2 cents

Nothing to do with capability to pay or spend money .
Avoid the problem , instead to cure it , alter .
Munch cheaper and better for the brand image .

Just spent a few weeks cruising this brand new VDJ79 series. The single turbo diesel is a very nice balance with a 5sp but no where near the power of the twin turbo VDJ
