It sure looks good.

You'll find a lot of the 70 series here are accessorised by the local distributors.

I'm currently going through the rigmarole of registering a VDJ78 in Dubai, which has come in through Oman, and originally built in Japan. The distributor in Oman has made this a 'Special Edition' by adding diff locks (Fr/Rr), Aluminium roof rack, fridge (Glove box, not centre console), plus uprated stereo (pointless, considering there are only two speakers in the dash), some horrible wooden dash trip and DRLs.

Supposedly all these parts are supplied to Oman by Toyota, then fitted locally, so it's still a standard Toyota locker set up.

That's I've been told .. guess it's cheaper buy those parts separately .. if they are really authentic Toyota parts ...

I've seen 78 for sale in Dubai .. at least at the web .. why bring it from Oman .?

The Cruisers you see advertised online here in Dubai, generally aren't originally Dubai stock. How it works here, is each country has a Toyota dealer. Al Futtaim here in the UAE, Abdul Latin Jameel in Saudi, and Saud Bahwan in Oman. The generally all compete against each other, especially for the export market - it's big business shipping these in to other countries within the GCC and Africa.

There's a gentleman's agreement between them that they don't steal sales in each others markets, however Al Futtaim here in the UAE won't import diesels, and won't bring things like the 78 series in, so suddenly Oman see an opportunity to bring them in to the UAE under the guise of Export, through areas like Alweer (where all the car sales generally take place). It's likely all the Cruisers you've seen (check out Dubizzle, for example) that state for export, come from Oman.

Yes, and New Zealand.

In this process I've been looking all over the middle east .. and Oman does not look like will offer the 76 model ..

Toyota - Land Cruiser Pick-up

Only pic ups single and double cap ..

It's the same deal here in the UAE - they don't sell these retail, yet they sell them through their export network of small dealers, who resell in GCC markets, but typically export on to Africa etc. It's there way of getting around the trade agreements each of the dealers has with TMC.

This hole situation around the VDJ76 seems to be weird to me .. ( pretty sure it have good reason for Mr. T organization ) and the more I know and dig the weird it gets .. ( again, to me .. )

The LHD catalog shows rear drum only. We have an RHD V6 and an RHD V8 with rear discs.

Weird as that 2013 hzj76 I just parted out had rear discs so you are saying they went back to drums ?

I'm saying that the current LHD VDJ76 has rear drums. I see GRJ76 in LHD with either disc or drum on the rear.

The good thing it's as I believe share the same housing, parts from backing plate out can be obtained to swap out drums and install discs ..

Still so weird ( IMHO ) those decisions Mr. T make .. why RHD have the rear disc option but not the LHD version .. ?

weird weird ..

One positive about the drum brake rear is the parking brake actually works.☺

Well ..... if you decide you need rear disc brakes at least you know a guy that has a complete set of donor axles somewhere in Europe ;-)

IMHO works as good as the disc / drum setup in the late 80 series .. if well maintained / regulated do a great job .. the downside of the big drums it's the maintenance / mobile parts it's miserable .. much more if we are talking about wet / mud involved ..

count me in .!!!!!!

what I need to do .?

80 Series disc/drum parking brakes are marginal on a great day.

Of course I only have a limited 25-year-long intimate experience with them.
