Downey Aluminum universal bellhousing for short-block chevy or BPO (Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile). See photos. Obviously it will be removed from the transmission prior to shipment. Seems to be in good condition. $400 prefer local pickup but will ship for shipping cost +$20 for the handling since boxing this thing up will be a bit of a task.

Do you have the sheet metal lower plate that bolted to bottom 1/3rd of the bellhousing, or was it demolished when the bellhousing was chipped out. If you have the sheet metal plate in restorable condition I would trade my stock 4 speed bellhousing for your Downey bellhousing, lemme know.

Sorry, unfortunately this is how I received it and this is all I have. The story is the guy I bought the FJ40 from was sitting there working on it one day and some guy pulled up with this bellhousing and 4 speed transmistion/t-case and just gave it to him. So it got thrown in the deal when I bought the vehicle. Now I'm trying to switch the 3-speed over to the 4-speed but need the right bellhousing for it. Thank you for confirming that area is chipped out an not normal, I was wondering about that. Looks like someone wanted an inspection port perhaps? A bit of a hack job if so.

If you were open to some negotiations I would be prepared of offer a low-ball amount of money for the bellhousing, low-ball for 4 reasons: (1) considering postage charges to me, (2) time and cost for me to restore damage, (3) no back side splash plate, and (4) I would then have to sell it at a radically reduced price since it is a repaired/used part.

I'd still like to try to get a stock bell housing for it, perhaps someone out there is doing a V8 swap and would be open to a trade. But I will consider your offer and won't be offended as I understand it is not in ideal shape as you have pointed out.

Still available. Price lowered to $130 +$20 and shipping cost if not local pickup. Below is a better picture of the area that was modified.

I hate to pass, but between your price, postage, restoration cost, then having to sell as used, the math does not match up for me, BUT what about the rear motor mount on that transfer-case, is it for sale ???

It might be, but honestly I'm so new to the FJ40 world and not sure if I might need it or not for the drivetrain I plan on running, which is a 2F/4speed. Haven't decided if I'll stick with the 4-speed transfer case or run the 3-speed transfer case I also have.

The transmission mating face looks different, more pronounced. Jim, is this an earlier iteration of your product, perhaps from a different foundry?

Beside missing one of the dowl pins, it looks like some machining was done to clear a different front bearing retainer ??? Good eye Mark, I did not originally catch that.

10/85 the bearing retainer on the front of the four and five speed changed and earlier bellhousings needed clearance for oil channel to the front bearing. Areas ground are in the right spot.

Well ok then, weird I never ran into the situation up to and including when we closed in 2009 ????? just saying

It would be a newer transmission that had a nineteen spline output shaft and used split transfer case. The later transmissions have oil channel clearly visible on the front. Just because it has an earlier H42 now doesn't mean it's the only transmission bolted up to it over the years. You sell it and it will have a different transmission bolted to it as an example.

That's true. The only history of this I know is that the PO of my FJ40 was working on it in his driveway one day and a guy pulled up and basically dumped this housing/tranny/case in his yard and sped away. In retrospect, probably a smart move and something I should consider.
