Sure, Venezuela made a deal with Toyota that they would sell the FJ40, but a certain percentage of it needed to be "locally" made/sourced. Government regs or something...

That looks like:
rear axle, radiator, doors (some) glass, softop, etc.

The rear axle is a Dana 60, semi-float
Nice, learn something new every day!

An offset rear D60 in FJ40 width, that would have been nice in the US. I think the Jeep J20 truck had an offset D60 rear for a few years. The only other I have seen.

From all the info Ive read, its not really an "upgrade" over the LC axles. Still a 1.3" 30 spline shaft, semi float, not even sure if this Dana is a C-clip axle or not. It's made by Dynaven in Venezuela, but I'm sure now it's easier to get parts. The toyota housing is better than the pressed tube design.

The lack of heater is usually a good indication, or aftermarket heater that it's not a US model...not always but usually.
Rear axle being a Dana 60 sem-float is south american only
The Glass in a South American spec is also different,

I would HIGHLY suggest searching away on here for all info.

Then if you find one, I would highly suggest posting pictures and asking questions on here before you pull the trigger.

Good luck!
Thanks

From 1/75 on US hard top models will have a model number FJ40LV-KCJA on the under the hood plaque. Guessing the few FST imported after 1/75 would be FJ40L-KJA.

Hi, is there any way to verify a US spec with the model number or other numbers on the firewall VIN plate? I have a 78 FJ40 with the following model number: FJ40LV - KOJA in addition to the VIN the plate is also stamped with 854 LE11, and H42 K082 on the VIN plate. It has front disc brakes, side blinker markers on the rear quarter panels, dash pads, bucket seats, roll bar, heater, larger air filter housing, no driver/passenger door window vents, parking brake light and everything else I can possibly think of that’s US spec. The twist is, I imported it from Columbia and the shop that restored it refers to us as an “American Version.”

How about under the hood, is there an emission system, egr, things like that, that all US models in the 1970’s forward came with? The SA vehicles did not have emissions. Also the VIN # on my 1981 43 is much different, shorter, than on my 1982 NA 40.
I would venture to say that all general market 40 series could be fitted with any NA parts.

How about some pics?

Few of us know the entire history of an FJ40. I know of a local (Colorado) US-spec FJ40that was driven to Venezuela by the last owner, and then brought back, and it has stickers and various indications of Venezuela on it, but is clearly a US spec truck. Without knowing its travels, this might be a confusing truck to decode/understand.

I would be sure that the O is not a C. Not seeing any models with the O

L= LHD
V= Van (hard top)
K= four speed transmission
C= ambulance style rear doors
J= roll bar
A= US market only after 2/76. 1/75-2/76 A would be North America including Canada. 2/76 Canada have it's model.

It does have ambulance doors, I will double check

this is very helpful. Yes it’s a C not the O.
Where are you finding the data to decode this?
Here are photos of every way I know to tell NAS- disc brakes, no vents on windows, air filter, dash pads, brake light, side markers, roll bar and bucket seats

you'll want to plug the big tube on the top of the air cleaner as it is sucking in unfiltered air into the engine.

These are a cheap solution for what @3_puppies puppies referenced

I believe LE11 is the color of your interior seats and door panels… dark grey. 854 should be your paint code, but I don’t know the color translation for that particular code. Guessing it’s “something blue”.
