Can anyone recommend an upholstery shop pls? I need to have four seats re-covered and I'm providing the leather. This is for a customer.

Thanks.

Normally, I would guess these would be seats for an auto application (based on the normal things we talk about here), but what if they were seats for a dining room chair, or a chair in a living room?

Yup, seats are for the 80!!!

The PO of my 40 used House of Covers to redo my front seats and my visors. All my stuff is in vinyl, but so far everything is holding up just fine.

I was told to try Bear Nuts (Central & Tennessee) for a leather repair. The place that I used a few years ago has either moved or gone out of business. The guy that recommended Bear Nuts does auto restorations.

I'll check out Bear Nuts on Monday, thanks for the heads up. Strange name for a shop though....

+1 for House of Covers near UNM. They have been in business a very long time. They just redid one of my colleagues seats. Turned out great.

When the time comes, they will be doing my P/U. They even patched my vinyl tear on the door (for free) when I drove by to ask them about seat covers.

Owner's name is Jay. It is a small Dad & Son shop. Dad is taking Son to his freshman year at Purdue so his schedule is booked and he is going to be out of town for several days. He gave me a slot on Aug 31. You might be able to get him to do something sooner because I wasn't in a big hurry and Aug 31 worked OK for me.

He told me he would be happy to quote a price on installation of leather purchased somewhere else. My job is a repair.

This is the place Dad recommends BTW (I thought it was Bear Nutt though). He's done a few seats for the Power Wagons. Dad was sure impressed, and that's good enough for me!

Cool. I spoke to him on Sat and told me to stop by on Tuesday. Purdue - he better stitch up a boat load of leather for that tuition bill :hhmm:

Jay gave me a couple of other pointers.
1. To save your seat bolsters you need to get in your car like a woman. Stand in the open door, butt to the inside of the car, face left, put your butt in the seat, then swivel right 90-degrees while picking up your feet, and deposit your legs and feet in the footwell. This is quite a feat in the cruiser but not too bad in the Taco and the LS400.

I will try this "girlie entry" if it helps save the wear on my seats but I will not squat to pee no matter what... even if it means I am single and celibate for the rest of my life.

Jay gave me a couple more tips:
* To clean really dirty leather (like when a guy drives a car), use GoJo and *lightly* rub it in and rub it off. GoJo also has lanolin which softens the leather.
* Remove your wallet from your right rear pocket before you get in the vehicle with either the woman or manly method. Either put it in the center console or put it in your front pocket. If you are going through a divorce you won't need a wallet anyway so just quit carrying it and throw your DL and any credit cards that don't get maxed out in the glove box.
* To clean dirty seat belts use Oxydol.

He gave me some other advice that I will share for a small fee. (Gotta pay that friggin' lawyer with something besides my dashing good looks.)

This might just be the best advice I've ever found on the internet. Do you know how easy it is for my stupid white shirts to show the dirt that ALWAYS ends up in my truck? For a while I wouldn't put the white shirt on until I got to the airport, just because the grease is so hard to get out.

Can't wait to try this out...

Make sure you use the original formulation, nothing fruity or citrus. That way it will have the manly scent of GoJo in your manly truck all the time.

Why are you worried about your truck smelling "manly"? Does this have something to do with the big truck, small...nevermind thing?

I don't have a truck anymore. My wife has a '99 Land Cruiser. I drive a '98 Accord Sedan. Can you say neutered?

Marc, no reason to get testy here! Not sure about the last sentence. Are you saying you are neutered, or did you forget a t and ask me to "stay neutered?" Either way, you will get your own Cruiser at some point, I am sure. You know we all love you no matter what.

I got a quote from two places and holy moly, they're expensive!

I need someone to swap out the leather seat covers with new seat covers that my customer is supplying. All they're providing is just the labor and the cheapest quote I got is $1,000!!!

Isn't there a guy on MUD (Shane?) that sells replacement leather that is user installable?
