Hey guys, I'm having water leaking inside the cabin which makes the front passenger footwell carpet wet. The sunroof drains are clear and I've even put the hose in the right front footwell area where the sunroof drain goes and water runs through fine. There's no water leaking down from the windshield because nothing above the carpet area is wet. I cannot figure out where the water is coming from. Any suggestions? Thanks

Update is I still can't find where the water is getting in the cabin, but the baby powder technique helped me locate the drip. You can see it highlighted in this photo. There is no coolant in it. I felt up above this spot, all around, with my hand and did not feel any drip path or other water. Anyone have a leak come off this same spot and can offer a hint? It's really hard to see up there. I may have to take out the passenger seat to look around properly.
Thanks!
Russell

I would give credit if I could remember who, but also you can use something like baby powder or talcum powder to gently powder an area to find the source of drips..... if inside the truck.

Use some baby powder to find the wet spot...where have I heard that before? :hmm:

Use baby powder how exactly? Just sprinkle it around? I don't get it.

I remember seeing a post where someone was getting water through that horizontal bolt at the upper rear of the fender that is exposed when you open the front doors. May be worth a look and could be easy to seal and chalk off the list.

With that said after having an ordeal with the windshield myself my votes there. Check the wiring harness that's tucked in the hole behind the kick panel amd see if its wet. Water tends to find wires then it follows them down to the floor where you won't see it until it's getting under the carpet.

I'm having the exact same issue. Sunroof drain is clear and tested it just to make sure it is draining properly. However my entire passenger side floor is soaked. Will be checking the windshield as well as the fender and firewall area tomorrow.
Thanks for the info guys.

80's are prone to rusting on the firewall. there is a boxed in section on the fender side of the fire wall that he inner fender bolts into.
this has been a cause of wet footwell carpets if the rust is bad enough.

I found water in these boxes recently on my '92. Pulled the drain grommet and at least a cup drained from each side. I'll have to join up at LCOOL to read that sticky.

Thanks!

Is your headliner wet anywhere? The PO of my rig used really long sheet metal screws on the stock roof rack without sealant. Water was entering through the holes under the roof rack feet and running off the headliner, down the pillars, and into the carpet. I also found my rocker panel drains were full. I pulled the rubber plugs and left them out like many people here have done.

If it's an unseen drip then the baby powder will be wet where that drip hits. If it's soaking from the panel or the floor it will look different. And your truck will smell nice.

I recently went through this in my LX450. I thought it was the windshield, but nothing above the carpet was wet. The passenger side footwell was saturated. I removed the kick panel and found the sunroof drain tube was kinked and leaking. I removed the kink and it has been dry ever since.

My windshield gasket "seems" solid on the body side... the last couple of weeks I shimmed up the sunroof and sealed the glass side of the windshield gasket. I also removed the cowl and removed a lot of debris from under there. There was a spot on the corner that was all clogged up but I don't know if it's known to cause internal leaks.

You guys rock. Thanks for all the tips. I've got baby powder in the rig right now and it's raining. Hopefully I'll get some good intel soon.
Thanks for taking the time to post your tips and suggestions, as always!

Any updates?

Fuggit. I'm getting mine replaced. It's really pitted anyway. And has some chips. With a properly-placed ball peen hammer I'll only be out $100.

From a lot of posts on here make sure they follow the FSM instructions. A lot of posts with issues that are created when a new one is put in by not sealing as recommended on both sides of the gasket or something that they are not used to doing. That coupled with the inferior aftermarket glass.

As the OP, my update is I still can't find the damn leak. I've got the carpet pulled back for good access, baby powder everywhere, it rained cats and dogs earlier this week, and I drove through the car wash and put the hose all over the truck, and still can't find the leak. I *think* a little water is coming down the wires wrapped in plastic housing which come from under the dash and then go under the carpet right against the extreme right (PS) edge of the floor. But the amount of water I'm seeing is so small it's very hard to tell where it's coming from. I can't even see it dripping, I just see it on the floor under the wire housing and I *think* I can feel a little water on the outside of the wires about 8 inches above the floor.

Further suggestions?

Thanks.
