Internets is hard

Not sure how you missed the Woodgrain Warrior Incognito mount. It released not long ago. I had the prototype mounted in December and there's been plenty of talk on here about it.

Still did not find a writeup on the mount. Maybe you can post a link. I really gots no idear how these internets things works. Glad you like my writeup... :flipoff2: For less than 50 clams in materials, I think it turned out great..

Yep. The only other write up on a diy, is for modifying the BudBuilt to work. But yours is the first from scratch I think. Awesome job.

The write ups aren't about dyi ... they are about an actual product that I designed and we have been talking about for the last 5 months ... its just your home made one is eerily similar to our design .. that's all he was trying to say...

BTW: Get ready for a group buy ... those who are interested !

Oh, I get it now. You think I did a write up on your design. I love it when people can actually come out and say what they mean. I have to admit, I am really flattered that a professional fabricator would think this! Thank you. The truth if you care to believe it, or not is. I pulled the front bumper skin off my gx470 and started to figure the best way to mount a winch I had in another rig behind the skin using the existing bumper support. Now, I do not have in my possession nor had I seen your mount or pictures of your design. The way I fabed it just made sense. I think if you look close at my fab, you will see major differences. Hopefully my write up will give some other shade tree fabricators the incentive to give it a try.

And your design looks eerily like every other hidden winch mount ever designed. This forum is about DIY, innovation, and helping others build their rigs. I think you may have missed the memo with those comments.

I don't think it looks or seems anything like any other mount I've seen. He modified the stock bumper mounts using just a few pieces of sheet metal and some ingenuity, and shared with the rest of us. Heck, if anything, this one should be filed in the 'best mods for under $100' thread. Undercover mounts have been around for quite a few years.

Yeah, if he designed it, then started selling it I would be suspicious. Build vs. buy is normal in this place.

To echo the rest, great job! I plan to tackle this project very soon. just need a weekend and some scrap metal. I would love to see a few different angles to see how you made yours. Also, did you weld your plates while it was mounted on your GX? I am fearful I will cause damage to the ECU or something... Also, some of the comment mentioned additional bracing. Have you considered this, if so what would you do? I was thinking of boxing in the mounts with 3/16 stock.... good idea?

OK sorry guys:worms: ...

let me be clear
... I didn't accuse anyone of stealing my design ...

and it doesnt look like every other hidden winch mount @kbahus ... bc he to took a different (same) approach i did to make it work bc the room is there to fit a winch without being so high

my first post when I stated "creative eye" wasn't passive aggressive... i really meant that bc we obviously think the same way ... if you read the other post and reviews on other hidden mounts its always some ublot style plate that attaches to the inner bumper ... i just dont have that much faith in ubolts sorry ...

i posted the links bc you said you didnt know what we were talking about ... and seeing that you only have 33 messages in the 7-8 years you have been on mud id say you probly dont hang out here that much so you probly didnt know about it ...

And if you did who cares! ... I encourage everyone to try building things ... I think its great you thought of this and good for you for taking the initiative to use the tools you have access to and do it yourself ... so you should feel flattered @PhatFJ ;)

I love seeing what other people fabricate bc it shows a physical form of an individuals creative thought process :pompous:

now if you was trying to sell it we would have another meeting ... otherwise great job ... i apologize for the confusion :meh:

Thanks guys, I was feeling a bit like what the hell?. I am just sharing what I thought some others might enjoy doing on their rigs not trying to step on anyone and am certainly not wanting to get into the fab business..

Thanks man, I did NO welding on the rig. Thins is the nice thing about taking the complete bumper assembly off the rig. Just be sure and use a ratchet strap to hold in place while you tack it up. After I cut the upper channel and put the 1/4" plate in place, I clamped it along the front edge, put the ratchet strap on it and then test fit the bumper back on the rig making sure the bolts lined up. Then after I tacked the plate I test fit it again. This is the only time you will have to make any adjustments to the alignment of the bolt holes. As far as the additional bracing, it will be very easy to fab a plate that just backs up the existing mount. I am thinking of using some 2 or 3" angle iron. I will post more on this after I have a chance to work on it more.. One other thing, I never removed the bumper extensions from the front bumper channel, I just left them as they were. Once the plate is welded in place it will be integral to the assembly. I tool a lot of pictures so if you need a shot of something specific please let me know..

All the best, Phat

Thanks for the response and offer for other images. I might take you up on that. How did you determine the fair lead backer plate opening height? Did you make it as low as possible, and level with the spool bottom?
