Im sure im not the first to think of this but my 85 4runner has got serious rust issues...the rear quarters around the wheel opening are gone....

Ive got lots of decent fenders lyin around so I cut out the "bubble" around the wheel opening and its a near perfect match for the same section in the rear.....

weve been doin alot of patching on these 1st gen 4runners and thought theres got to be a few people out there with a rusty runner

Sorry about no pictures.....will post up soon

Cool first gen 4runner quarter panel repair!

Cool tip on the fender arch swap! I did the same thing on my 74' Chevy Nova... The front fender arches work as long as you swap sides (use front right on the rear left and front left on the rear right). Of course with this knowledge you gotta figure I am originally from pittsburgh myself- and you'd be right! I was born and raised there until moving out west. Good to see some people into Cruisers in the burgh' ! When I was there I swear I was the only one rocking an 80 series... couldn't find any other cruiser heads.

I love 80 series have to get one someday.....

I know of about a dozen 40 series around the burgh and at least 20 people who wheel 2nd/3rd gen trucks/runners.....but your right i only personally know of 1 guy who wheels an 80.....he floats around on here too.....95ToyCruiser I think

I've heard of others doing the fender trick, would love to see pics.

Wow it's a small world. My second car was a '74 Nova. Cragar mags, air shocks in the back, rollin' with that fire-breathing 250 I-6... don't think I have any pics of it though.

if your rust is that bad , welding in a new "bulge" is just a bandaid .. and probabally wont last long without rust "bubbling" up somewhere else ..

if you were to actually remove the panel .. you would see much more rust .

my rust is just around the wheel opening, and i do not need to remove the panel i can see it from inside the truck, so this fix will help me. a bandaid is when people slap in the bondo!:flipoff2:
