The PO cut the center column out. No cancer. Minor oxidation. Straight. Message me if interested. Like to see it go to a LWB owner. This has been on my truck as long as I’ve owned it. I have a personal connection to anything I take off of my driver for so long.
650.00 before shipping. Open to discussion on price.

I don’t know the price. I’ve not seen one come up before. I searched years for a replacement with the third column/post/rail. I pretty much got laughed when I asked if it was up for grabs when I finally learned of one. Perhaps you and the others can help me out. I am not trying to auction it. Not that I can help it but I would like to see it go to a person who actually needs it. And I’m not talking about someone needing it to round of their 12th one.

This is the only price comparison i could think of. Not stock or same condition, but only thing like it for sale.

Thank you for the input. Someone else pointed me to it. I guess I put more emphasis on the OEM. I’m nearly tempted to keep it because I’m not 100% sure I like the seeing the bar in the rear view mirror.

I think the headache rack looks really cool on the lwb. Kind of its trademark.

I first saw a 45 in specters catalog 30 years ago, it was a rear view with a prominent headache rack! It was the headache rack that got my attention. I will never own one without it! Before Kevins reproductions, they would easily bring $500. I think $650 is spot on for an original. I paid $500 for one about 10 years ago..

And I sold my last used one (with the 3rd bar) fifteen years ago for $500.

Of course I’ve been around so long that I can still remember ordering the last NOS one directly from Japan about 27 years ago for @FJ45Dude. :oldman:

This thread seems like a good place to continue Mark's story. Yes, 27 years ago while milling around Mark's shop with my newly acquired FJ45, asking all sorts of questions, I mused about the possibly of a headache rack. That was one of the few original equipment things that had been removed prior to my caretaking. The previous fellows found the space more useful for a large fuel tank.

My amazement when he found one brand new from Toyota Japan.... and when I saw it sitting in front of his shop counter... in the 'chicken crate'!

The rack formed the cornerstone of what my goal with the truck was for a number of years.

As time progressed, my plans changed and the truck's patina just got better. I have yet to install install the rack. While it is not for sale, I do see a place for it on a future project I have in mind. Until then, it remains in the original packaging as delivered to me by Mark. @65swb45.

27 years--how very cool ! You certainly have great self-control; not many of us would have waited even a week before installing it.

And of course your story will give hope to some guy somewhere, holding out hope that there's a NOS widget he's wanting out there if he just keeps hunting longer !!

FYI, there are a few fanatical collectors in the Middle East who restore their 45s, and then display them parked on expensive rugs with authentically crated roof, hardtop, doors, etc. stored in the bed, just as they were shipped out from Japan over 50 years ago !

Would it have been installed in the black or is that primer? Curious if they were painted same as the truck or black. Thanks.
