Quest for Relic Run Readiness -part 3

This weekend, was on dad duty most the time but still got in a few hours to get ready for next weekend. Was working through the onsc vehicle requirements.

- installed/secured cooler
- dropped windshield for the first time, surprisingly almost rust free
- Installed fire extinguisher in a safe spot
- fabbed up an A-Pillar hilift lockable mount, not yet complete but close...
- tested parking brake, successfully stalled in third gear
- installed registration on sticker on plate
- tested 4x4, locking hubs, 4H and 4L
- removed some more red spray paint
- cleaned film off windshield.

Wish there was more time to do more items on my list. But only an oil change, and some packing before in technically ready!

1hp, to match the motor on the fans. They say you're supposed to up rate your vfd from your motor rating but seeing as its a constant torque application, I figured I'd give it a chance. The chance paid off!!!

Going to try to come up with a mount that will allow me to direct the air of one squirrel cage down more than the other to get a good spread of air over the 30' of garage.

My favorite part is that it runs off of a regular household 110v outlet!!!!

How many amps does it pull at full power?
 
Got a warn winch (thanks Johnny for the referral) and it has a massive 1/4" steel mounting plate that needs to come off. Top two bolts were open and came off easy. Bottom two - not so much.

Advice?

That looks like one of them thar jeep winches

Still cant get an idea of whats going on there. Is that a squre nut captured in a pocket in the winch foot like a lot of warns? If so not sure how they got it on and would guess you need to slot that bolthead and try and back out or resort to drilling it out.


Just peeked at mine. Looks like above would work. Or if you can get an air chisel on the backside you could try and split the nut. Dremel maybe?

3ph motor is rated for ~3.3A at 220v. VFD is rated to pull 20a 110v at full 3ph output, but it doesn't in this application, because it didn't trip my 15a breaker.

I'm assuming that's peak draw at startup, but with the ramp-up and ramp-down features, I seriously doubt it's getting that high. I wish I had an amp meter to test with!!

Weird bolts for sure. Cut them off/out. Drill through the center and beat it off, or get in there with a torch. Once you cut the bolt head to get the plate off, you'll have to unthread it from the captured square nuts in the winch, ideally without messing anything else up.
Also, trash that fairlead. It's wore out.
 
Yep - the SML dude. He was using it to pull jetskis up a hill from the lake into his garage. The fairlead is definitely toast - that sucker's got grooves in it like crazy. I'll be grabbing a roller one - once I get these bolts cut and figure out the size I need.

If you can bring it over to someone with a plasma or an oxy torch it would take just a few minutes to melt the heads off and get that plate off. Alternately, weld on some nuts to those round heads and try to turn the bolts out. I can't imagine they're carriage bolts, that just wouldn't be possible.

All of the 8274 winch stuff is top of mind for me as I prepare to build mine. Can't wait to pick it up this weekend :bounce:

Since your pictures are humorous but not very informative bring the winch tonight so we can have a look.
 
hell no. s*** weighs like 200 lbs.... took all my back strength unloading it by myself out of the 40. No way I'm lifting it again until that 60 lb mounting plate is off.

My take is that it's because the motor set costs ~$1300 starting by itself. You then have to buy the winch, upgrade the brake shaft, rebuild it, put synthetic line on it, etc. You can buy a fully loaded and ready to install M12000 for $1500 and you're done. Offroad racing in this country is more go-fast with very little winching, unlike europe, so there's no need for a 15hp winch that can do 100+ line feet per minute for competition.

that could be very true in terms of competition

most of the time you see them in the rain forest challenges where speed is needed
