New Brakes too. We finished up the front minus bolting on the wheels and checking out a drag up front. Anyone ever had issues with the 100 pads on 80 rotors? I knew you needed to grind the pad if going on a used rotor but thought I read new rotor did not matter as there would be no lip.


Anyhow big thanks to @fj40z for the help and enticing ole Greg aka @southerncruiser62 into a visit. The ride looked sweet man!

Good time wrenching for sure! It was a productive day, got the front end rebuilt on Jason's 80, got to hang out with ol Greg @southerncruiser62 also got to see @jfz80 go from trying to work relatively cleanly then progressively caring less and less to the point he would just wipe the gobs of grease on his hands on his shirt, and we might have renamed Jason's 80 to the greasy punkin. So all in all it was a great day.

That's Alex's 40 and white 200. The silver one is indeed Gregs and super sharp looking ride. Just needs the standard. 2.5" lift and 33s

Oh and 18 hrs later my "diff lube" has still not drained from pan to basin lol

^that sounds like a nickname I once had.

Finally got my knuckle back this week.
All but back up with new wheel bearings, upper and kier ball joints. Upper and lower control arm bushings. A new dust shield- the other was completely rotted away- and hardware and seals everywhere.
New Inner and outer tie rod ends are already installed.
Time to build it back up for the HC run next week.

The rest of the vehicle may eventually rot away, but with the POR15, chassis black, and internal frame coating used in these parts, it's left arm pit will last forever.

I just found out my birds are leaking like crazy, so this job is now first in queue. How long did it take you guys? I have never done it and wondering if it's worth farming it out. Thanks!

It's about a good days work, most of that time is cleaning parts. If you haven't done it in a while or are unsure of the last time it was done and replace everything you're looking at around $300 in parts then another $50 or so in grease, gear oil, brake cleaner and that sort of stuff. I'm sure it varies a lot but I would say most shops are going to charge somewhere around $800 to $1000 to do it parts and labor. If you suspect just the inner axle seal is bad and you know the wheel bearing and such are in good shape then you can just replace the seals and a few gaskets. If that's the case your parts list will definitely be cheaper.

Al is 100% correct about the parts washer. It's not necessary but is a BIG help

Oil change, rear diff/tcase fluid swap and finished with rear wheel bearing repack plus new oem ebrake shoes/pads on fresh rotors
