Thanks for the loaner coaster ;)

Fate dictated power steering pullies to align so making a run for home before ill need those lights.

WP is fine and didnt snag anything. Random fatigue failure ? Though the part should've had no movement at all bolts were still tight

Fatigue is the only obvious cause that comes to mind, can't say that I remember seeing that before.

Classic symptoms to a ruptured L5 resulting in trauma to the S1 and sacral nerves. Or, it may be fatigue on a cast with an imperfection.

I may or may not be under the influence and posting.

I was increasing the on tension the v belts, and also replacing the dizzy o-ring this weekend. Once I was done I noticed the ratcheting 12mm wrench I was using was sticking a bit. I also had a 3/8 drive that wasn't quite as smooth when I got it. The tools were on the cheap side so I wasn't expecting all that much but I sent an email to Tekton last night, the responded this morning and asked for me to send a picture to verify ownership, and then promptly send replacements for both. I have probably bought 30 or so tools from them and these were the only two I have had issues with. Just wanted to pass on the PSA in case anyone was looking for an inexpensive option that's better than HF.

Cheers

I'm not saying that this had anything to do with Jason's problem but guys, check your belt tension. It is very easy to OVERTIGHTEN your belts. Here's what can happen to a 2F harmonic balancer/crank pulley if you run the belts too tight:

The belts place a lot of leverage on these thin pressed metal pullies. Since this little catastrophe happened to me I run my belts no tighter that is needed to avoid belt slip and squealing.

Great reminder for all Dave.

However my belts were not quite tight enough and had been inspected as recently as the day before and were on the list for replacement.

Another belt tension reminder.... it is totally possible to crack a PS reservoir trying to snug up the belts :(

Jason's failure happened to me also several years ago, but with a crank pulley.

It appears the thin (read Mr. Gasket aftermarket) stamped steel does a tiny but of flexing each revolution due sideways pull from the belts. Then it just becomes a matter of time. I have since changed to a billet pulley.

Need a pic of 2f billet crank pulley!!
