I have a 94 FZJ80. The turn signal cancels, for lack of a better word, right after a quarter turn of the steering wheel to the right. It only happens when I turn right. What could be causing this?

On mine the brass from the sliding contact ring for the horn circuit had contaminated the grease and slowly eroded the detents on the turn stalk cancel ring/spring/mechanism.

Cleaned it all off really well and put some fresh white lithium grease on it.. helped a lot but it was still really happy to cancel early if hitting a bump or turning the wheel at the right speed.

Mine recently started doing this exact same thing. I was wondering if there was a fix before pulling my dash and steering column cover as it isn't fun with my air gauge in the way.

All you'll need to do is pull the steering wheel to get a good look at the problem. Could probably even do the cleaning/greasing without removing the multifunction switch.. which is what actually requires removing the column cover.

Also, I've found that a puller generally isn't necessary for toyota steering wheels as long as they haven't been overtightened. Usually grabbing the wheel at 3 and 9 and rocking it side to side will pop it loose once the nut has been removed.

Do we have the beginnings of another 'no D light' thread here? I have the same 'issue' with my '94 turn signal turning off at the start of the right hand turn. I just live with it.

Just started happening to mine. Time to start taking more left hand turns...but 'big city' road engineers don't want you making left hand turns anymore.

Fixed the "D" light once and it when out again, I like not having "D" light glaring on my glasses.

Mine has also started doing that in the last month or so.

Took mine apart and lubed. Don't think it will help much as it still does it when parked. Not sure what part makes is short return? Something might be worn but I don't see what it is. The lobe on the red arrow bumps the arm on the yellow arrow to cancel the turn signal. Doesn't looks like much wear.

Its was tight. I had taped it together. I just used some epoxy to fix the broken plastic so I dont need tape to hold it together.

Not! I pulled and hurt my hands trying to poop it offs.
A puller was alots easierer.

The notches in the lobe by the pink arrow on mine were significantly deeper, but another part of the problem was the shape of the ramp by the yellow arrow.

Also on the upper right of your photo is the detent ball and spring that actually holds the stick in signal mode. Might look in there to see how worn the ramps are. That was another source of my problems.

And.. both land cruisers I owned, my 4runner, and my old camry could be man-handled off without a puller. Actually I take that back.. when I first got it the camry couldn't, but I think it was overtorqued.

The epoxy didn't work on the clam shell, plastic was to fragile. Just used some longer screws and large washers to cover the holes in the clam shell. With the broken legs of the clam shell, I bet it was sitting on the turn signal assembly somewhere. With it screwed in now, I had to make more room for the turn signal arm to fit. I little cutting did the job on the lower calm shell. After one trip, no short signal return and its nice and smooth.

My 93 does this. On right turns. It's annoying. Got pulled over this morning by a cop because he said I didn't signal. Gave me a warning but documented it so if I get pulled over again.

I don't even have a clamshell installed on my 93 right now and it is still doing it. Time to pull the steering wheel and clean it up and see what is going on.

My solution was to get a 97 body with a clock-spring and put it on my 94 frame.

Mine is doing it again. Looks like you should replace the parts with new or slightly used if you want it done right.
