Disassembling, had areas sealed off when working on it though......

Going to paint with Rustoleum Charcoal Gray, alomost a perfect match. Days on sanding and polishing and still some scratches, will post up more pics..........

I painted the metal bases on mine with Rustoleum Charcoal and it's close. You don't really see the base so I didn't sweat it.

I find plastic restoration very frustrating, so I thought I would try a different angle on stripping the paint from plastic. I went down to Harbor Freight and picked up a handheld sandblasting gun (it has a red built in hopper) I put some baking soda (arm and hammer) in it. Voila... soda blaster. I stripped some hub cap covers for my brothers Tacoma. Takes a little bit but it stripped them right down to the plastic. I washed them off and after they dried I wiped them down with a wax and grease remover. Ready for paint. And did I mention.......its messy but you can just wash it down with the garden hose.

I will post pics up of before and after the paint. I will use the plastic primer prep paint first on the plastic. I just could not get some of the scratches out no matter how much polishing, I even went to 3000 wet sand, working my way up from 220. I am actually relived as I spent almost a week to get the driver side housing polished.. I have some play in the base but seems no way to tighten, may use some epoxy to get rid of the wiggle. No more messy, skin irritating Brake fluid..................yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would love to see how that turns out, post up some pics and I will post up mine. Good hearing from you kevos!!

Very cool kevos, yes plastic restoration is tedious and frustrating, would have been much easier if mine were never painted. Where in Cali is Paradise? Such a gorgeous state..............

Sorry I did not take any pictures of the hub cap project. But it did strip them quite efficiently, right down to the plastic.

Paradise located is in Northern California (2 hours N of Sacramento.

Oh yea, you are way up there, Prescott Valley is 1.5 hours North of Phoenix at a mile high up here. Typically 17 degrees cooler than Phx year round-mild winters..........

Pics after days of sanding and polishing, going to paint, this is before paint:

Could not eliminate all scratches even with LOTS of polishing; so going to paint-will post up those pics too.

First housing sprayed, will post up pics soon....................

Pics of sprayed passenger side signal, pretty close to OEM and I am happy. Had they not been painted the sanding/polishing route is the way I would have proceeded. Will post up pics on vehicle too

Those look great!

awesome job. what color was that again? how did you prep the plastic for paint? adhesion promoter?

Wow those do look good. Maybe I should try to revive my old beat up ones and save some $$ nice work :)

Thanks buds!!!!!!!!!!! I am happy with the outcome, will post up pics of them on my 40 soon. Ant; Rustoleum CHARCOAL Grey Gloss Enamel, found it at our Prescott True Value Hardware. Krush my final sanding was with 400 before the paint. Ant no adhesion promoter; tried to use the Rustoleum Plastic primer but it came out like liquid/no spray and did not stick well/poor adhesion. Best bet is to clean surface sand with 220, then 400 wipe surface then paint.

Being meticulous with your taping off is crucial, I used the blue painters tape.
