Turkey sandwich run

I'm game for either location but not a trail like the squeeze or heart attack hill. Since this will be my first real trail run in this rig I would like to avoid any body damage.

Yeah, my co-worker said he just brought it up to his friends but nobody e-mailed back about that trail. So he said he would talk with them all this weekend when they are out their. So I will let you all know Monday if we will join them or go on our own.

OK, well it looks like my Heep co-worker is pretty set on a full day run of Pinyon Mtn Rd. through Squeeze and down Heart Attack, through Fish Creek Wash then following the rail road tracks around Tresstle 1 & 2 to Plaster City and back to camp in Ocotillo. He told me if I can come up with a run equal to that then he would suggest it. But I say F' it we are on our own, so what do you guys think about playing around the area South of Truckhaven and if it's lame we can always go to truck haven.
But I was thinking of starting off at Buttes Rd. and going down the Slot to San Felipe Wash, hitting Cut Across Trail over to the Palm trees (Una Palma, 17 Palm Oasis, & 5 Palms). Then we could take a trail over to Pumpkin patch, and out to Hwy 86 along Salton Sea and take another trail back in to one palm and ends over across S-22 from Microwave tower where we could then hop the road and play in Truckhaven. How does this grab you guys?

cool, like I said before, I'm down for whatever but I do rather take the routes that are not going to possibly ruin my truck. I have the whole weekend off so fri or sat it's fine with me. Mark just let me know, I'll pm my phone #. take care

ulyses:cheers:

I am down for Friday or Saturday also, bringing the famigilia so they are pumped! Hopefully there is a bit of water!:D

Either day is good for me. Fedex truck showed up yesterday with my Hanna sliders so I am super stoked to get them on and out on the trail.

Now I just need to figure out how to mount them without crushing my skull.

I have jack stands so that won't be a problem but I could use a hand.

Well, I can help you out Sunday if you are working on it.

Cool, we can talk about it when you drop the saw horses off. I need to check with the :princess: to see what is happening and I don't want to interfere with any football scheduling.:grinpimp:

Well the Chargers play Sunday night that's why I am offering up Sunday, and Saturday I will be Durabacking down the rear fender further now that I got my extra quart in and the Hanna is lower cut than the stock plastics. And hopefully painting the Tire Swing in anticipation of getting the seal from Ken.

I am working on mapping out the Turkey Sandwich trail on Google Earth on my lunch break now so if you want it when I am done just shoot me an e-mail at vs_kuz@yahoo.com and I will send you the .kmz file to open in Google Earth.

I have sent the file to two of you already but I wanted to mention here what I told both of you about the run. A rough estimate in Google Earth calculates the distance at 45 miles off-road. This is from our starting point at Buttes Rd. off of the 78 to Truck Haven off of S22 (Borrego-Salton Seaway).

So is it Fri, Sat, or Sun? I think I can make it if you will allow a lowlife from the OC to tag along. :D

Well we are currently throwing around just Fri or Sat right now and I just want to go with whatever brings more people and so far everyone is good with either day. So you tell me, does it matter to you? And I think we would LUV' to meet you!

Vinny e-mailed me a good question so I thought I would post it here and answer it.

That is sweet! I am looking forward to this, so what will I be expecting? I noticed the convo about no hard trails which is cool with me since I have been dumping money into the crusher a lot lately.
Thanks
Vinny!

OK, I mapped out my own run basically using my Borrego Map that I would recommend to all of you as well as Google Earth (G.E.). I have only done the first part of this run from Buttes Rd. down the Slot, See Video Reid took of my rig. The rest of it I have never been on it and for those of you who I sent the Google Earth file to there is a part before the Palm Oasis' that I am not even sure we can get through. My map shows a trail called "Cut Across" that should work but I only found a very skinny line that looks like a trail on G.E. that we may or may not be able to get through? For the most part it looks like nice wide open washes but there are a few canyon areas where it may get a little tight. So this will be a bit of an exploration and maybe those of you with GPS can insert a few points using G.E. such as 17 Palm Oasis, 5 Palm, & Pumpkin Patch. But for the most part I am thinking this will be a pretty tame run.

Jackstands aren't really that practical for slider installs. Two people can easily install them. Having installed many things under vehicles now, one of the best tools to have is a sheet of cardboard to lay on and slide around under your rig:D. I may be available to give you a hand if you need as well.

I was able to install my Hanna sliders by myself just using a floor jack. I just put the slider on top of the jack centered and balanced it with one arm while I jacked it up to the rocker panel with the other arm. It took a few moves of the jack to get it just right front to rear but when it is you jack it up untill it gently touches the rocker panel and the legs touch the frame and you can let go and it will hold itself in place while you install the u-bolts. Sounds sketchy but it is not wobbly at all. FWIW. :grinpimp:

I could do either but the :princess: just yelled downstairs to me that she would prefer Sat. Seriously either works but Sat would be better and make her happier and therefore me happier by default. :D
