I would plan on 1.5 hours, being a holiday weekend the possibility of getting stuck behind a land yacht increases exponentially. Where and at what time do the SD guys want to meet?

is this run closed?

Costco would be going the wrong way for me to meet you guys there.

Are you going out through Ramona/Santa Ysabel/Julian? Since we're not going to Borrego Springs, that is the way I'm heading.

Nope.

Costco works for me. My understanding was that we would go to Ramona / Santa Ysabel / left to the S2 and drop down to Borrego Springs or sraight to the 78 to avoid the Julian switchbacks. Maybe we can do a second meet at Dudley's or just skip Costco and head straight to Dudley's for a bearclaw.:grinpimp:

Bluto, I can't turn you away MAN!!!! You're in!

What a whole 3 miles! Fine, we will see you at the 78 & Borrego Springs Rd. ;p
I am still not sure what is the best way to go; through Julian or around on the 79 & S-2. I am still looking for opinions on this. You lifted guys with roof racks would probably rather go around on the 79 & S-2 compared to the curvy rds. after Julian.

From shortest to longest:

Santa Ysabel / Julian / 78 & Borrego Springs Rd.
Santa Ysabel / S-2 / 78 & Borrego Springs Rd.
Santa Ysabel / S-2 / S-22 / Borrego Springs / 78 & Borrego Springs Rd.

It's not really that much of a difference. The S-22 route is best to get into Borrego Springs or if you are coming from up north.

Unless you wanna have everyone meet at the 76 & 79 (like we did with Kevin) and drive down to the 78 via Culp Valley / Jasper-Grapevine Trail. :hillbilly: The 76 is most likey the way the OC guys will be coming in anyway.

Santa Ysabel / Ranchita / Culp-Jasp-GV Trail / 78 & Borrego Springs Rd.

Just a suggestion. (I like to drive off pavement whenever possible.)

Whoah, Whoah Whoah, you guys are confused on where we are meeting. We are not going down into Borrego Springs. We are staying up on the hill and South-West of Borrego Springs.
Let me post something up: Map Link
Arrow is at the intersection where we are meeting. You will see Buttes Pass Rd. just south of there. So we can actually air down at the meeting spot while we are waiting for everyone because it is just a mile from where we start the trail.

So our two options are stay on the 78 or go left at Santa Ysabel (79) to S-2 and back to the 78 to avoid the curves.

You are meeting at Costco. I was using Santa Ysabel as a reference point. Most of us will be passing through there.

Did you check out the links/maps?

The Costco meet was for us in S.D. You, Dan, my buddy, & I could all meet there and ride up the hill together.

Those times seem long to me, the map programs seem to cushion the times a bit. So they are saying staying on the 78 is faster, that was the info I was looking for. I am fine with staying on the 78, and you drove it with me Reid, what do you think? Dan voted for 79 - S2 - 78.

8 am work for you too Braden? Figure if you and Mo can meet by 8:00 from the Orange Curtain then us S.D. guys can do the same. What is it a little over an hour for us in SD to the meeting spot?

8:00am is fine with me.

Moe, do you want to meet up and caravan?

Those times are about right. I didn't think going though Julian was too bad. It's only a ten minute difference going around.

Sounds good to me Braden. How about the Chevron station at Oso Parkway and the 5 fwy at 6 am?

I will be coming down via the 76-79-S2 the same as Dan just a different point of origin. :D The time on the 79 is so short I don't mind the back tracking. I never hated the drive down the 78 but I am old and lazy now. :grinpimp: Sounds like the weather will be awesome.

I just thought of something, if we don't take S22 down into Borrego springs proper are there any gas stops to top off along S2 somewhat near our meeting place? If not we will have to go through Borrego Springs to top off and head down Borrego Springs Rd. The last time through there I took S3 down out of town and it was not a bad drive, just a few tight spots right as it drops down onto the 78.

To be totally accurate we are meeting at 78 and Borrego Springs Rd at 8 am on Sat Nov. 24th. Right? I only mention this becuase last time I went out to meet up with Smitty and crew I went on the Sat before the run and found myself solo in Borrego. :o:doh: Did do some killer wheeling though with the trails all to myself. :D

As for gas the only other place beside Borrego Springs & Julian might be Santa Ysabel, but not sure. And I don't think Ocotillo Wells has gas because when Reid and I drove into Julian on fumes we started home from Ocotillo Wells.

You are correct Sir.. ;)

HA! I remeber that.

Yeah, good point Dan. How about the Costco Gas station by Qualcomm? My G.F. & I both have cards if any of you aren't members. And at 6:00-6:15.
This is right down the road from me. So are you all meeting there around 6-6:15, fueling up and heading out? This is my first official run, anything that I should bring that is a necessity?

You, your rig, something to keep you hydrated, and a turkey sandwich. :hillbilly:
