Any word on the injectors? I'm interested if that was the culprit.

Wouldn't that be classified as cruel & unusual punishment? 
If it wasn't an injector then the only thing I can think of is a fuel pressure regulator failed or the fuel pump failed. A low fuel pressure would allow more pressure to flow for one section of the fuel rail vs others. Maybe. I guess also a damaged wire harness could cause issues in just one injector.

fuel pump is still working fine. haven't checked wiring harness to #1 but that's a good guess
3 injectors dribbling, 2 fair, 1 good report - now all working excellent. no indication injectors were misfunctioning during higer rpms/wot
