Oh no, I thought he was in the clear.
So sorry to hear about that.

sooo sorry to hear that. I good dog is part of the family.

Maybe your vet can do an exam of him to see what happened. Might be able to see if an outside condtion caused the sickness. ie something he eat, or heartworm, just examples. but might prevent your other dog from getting it as well if it was something.

I hope you found a nice resting spot. Take care

Damn, he's such a beauty too...

Wayne, I'm so sorry to hear about Bill. I know that everyone was hoping for a complete recovery.

I suppose God allowed for a little extra time, and what I hope was a fairly easy passing.

All of us dog owners share in your grief.

Bill had a really great friend in you.

The Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the "Rainbow Bridge" because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing; they are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him/her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again, again, and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

thats really nice. perfect to tell a child so they may be able to handle the pain. I really like that.

Child, or adult. It still helps me...

thank you

Thank you everyone for their words. it is very touching for both of us when we read them.
it is amazing that so many that do not really know us in person can feel such compassion. this is a great board to be a member of. it feels like a big family to me.
i am taking 'brownbears' advice and going to get him autopsied(sp?) and find out what has happened and then the ashes will be buried out in the mountains where he had very memorable rides and runs.
thanks again guys.
cheers from Wayne and Berni

Dude.....that made me cry....seriously.

Wayne, so sorry for your loss -but nice to know you had those extra weeks to spend with Bill before he left you.

Pablo Cruise made me do this...

And death shall have no dominion.
Dead men naked they shall be one
With the man in the wind and the west moon;
When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,
They shall have stars at elbow and foot
Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.

--Dylan Thomas

Sorry to make everyone cry.

When I lost my pups pictured in the back of my cruiser (above), my vet made donations in their name to Morris Animal Foundation:
http://www.morrisanimalfoundation.org/home.asp
The results of their autopsies were sent along as well. These guys care about animals and helping to treat them. My vet is on their Board of Trustees.

If you ever need to find a quality vet clinic, look for one who has gotten their AAHA accreditation: http://www.aahanet.org/

There were some questions about whether vets are in it for the $$$. I can tell you guys from working in the industry that veterinarians have to take on some the biggest debt of any health care provider, and then are rewarded with the lowest salaries. I have never seen a vet driving a $50k car, but if there is money in the family, why not? Vet schools have some of the most beautiful girls who care a lot - wouldn't be hard to marry someone who provides well.
