update
so for those of you that hoped for a fairytale ending this just might be it.
Bill is breathing like normal, eating, peeing and craping as normal and he is actually picking on Cruiser again. he is jumping in the air for food, sleeping normal, going for walks, truck rides and giving kisses freely.
i don't know what happened, his belly is back down to it's normal size and the great thing is his breathing being normal.
it might last or might not but he is back.
if all seems well by next week then Bill is going in for a cat scan to make sure what ever was there is gone.
i want to thank everyone for their kind words.

Its a weird story for sure. I saw Billy myself today and when his damn pal Cruiser wasn't hogging all of my attention he looked like the same old Bill to me. Good as new I figure. I came back and told my shop mates and every one is glad to hear of his recovery.

thanks guys,
i still want to get him checked out to see if we can find out what happened. i have never seen such a thing before his gut was the size of a foot ball hanging down pulling the skin tight and his back bone felt like a really dull saw and now back to normal...
if it was an infection, WOW!! nasty.

Final Chapter
Bill had a wicked, unbelievable recovery for a couple weeks. he was picking on Cruiser, running, eating and crapping like a new pup. he even went on his last wheeling trip last weekend and had no ill side effects.
this morning he was breathing rapidly again and I could tell what ever was wrong was back with a vengeance. he would lie on the couch and then wobble to the door to go out, lay under his favorite tree (the only one in the back yard) and then want back in. he would not eat and only drank a wee bit. this afternoon he wandered down the hall and collapsed. he stopped breathing shortly after that. at no time did he whimper.
I am really going to miss him.
