Trouble shooting temp guage (2 Viewers)

What steps would y'all take to troubleshoot a temperature gauge?

I drove my son's FJ40 this morning and realized after driving for 15 or 20 minutes that his temperature gauge had not budged off of cold

Typically his temperature gauge is up to full temperature by 5 minutes of driving.

What troubleshooting steps would you take to determine the cause for it not working

I'd double check the coolant level as well, just for insurance.

Coolant is good as well as reservoir level

Earth the sender wire and verify the gauge pegs out..

The FSM has testing procedures for senders and gauges.
