I was considering actually using Herculiner and rolling it on the entire trim piece, and possibly even below the trip piece. I wonder how it would come out, if I rolled it on if it will fill the seams.

You could just as easily get a cheap spray from Harbor Freight and get a good even coating. Friend of mine did the inside of his 40 tub this way with Hercu, turned out great.

Trim Painted White To Match Body.

That white trim looks sweet. I have a 99 also and I want to paint the trim white and then the bumpers a dark grey metallic. Like 80 series grey bumpers.

Did you have that done at a body shop, did you have to take the cladding off of the truck?

I had backed into a tree and wrinkled the hatch and tailgate. I had the bodyshop paint the trim at the same time. They did remove the trim, whether to sand it or what I don't know. I just went by and they had it off and were re-doing something. It cost me $250.00 over the price of the damage repair. I'd like to get the bumpers painted white to match but don't have the money right now. He mentioned doing it but I failed to get an estimate. I figure a few hundred per bumper. They'll have to recondition them to some extent as they are dinged up a bit.
Several years ago I had my daughter's Celica front bumper replaced at a much more expensive shop. i just wanted to repaint it but they said they could replace if for just $20 or $30 more than re-finishing and re-painting it. They charged me $700.00 for the front only. However, a friend had his Camry bumper re-done for a little over $300.00.

I always liked the look of the Aussie 100 series GXL:

So I pulled off my trim using the following tool:

Then removed the adhesive using the following tools:

Next I sanded the plastic and cleaned it with a general purpose cleaner, then painted it with the following paint:

During the removal process most of the clips broke, so I ordered new ones from Toyota total cost about $40. To reapply the molding I cleaned the truck surface and used 3M trim tape with the new clips.

And the final product...

Now if I could just get some of those steel wheels...

That looks nice. Aussie style. De-pimped! No roof rack either.

Where did you get the tool to remove the clips?

I've been planning the same mod, but I've also been trying to source the non - USA side molding. Yours looks great, I think I'll go that route. Thanks for sharing... any difficulties I should know about before removing the molding?

Mas. It's Duplicolor spray on bed liner. It's not as thick as Rhino lining, but it's pretty durable. I used this on my 80 flares and it held up really well.

I just finished doing the same thing. Looks pretty good, other than my trim is a bit beat up outside the center section. I still may say screw it and do the entire thing this week? :hhmm:

CKkone, your Cruiser has sure come a long way - very nice. Love your mods and the overall look and function.

Sand it good to give it a tooth for the liner to stick to, mask really well up and down and you should be fine. Like I said, I did all 4 fender flares on my 80 and it held up well. Dunno if it'd survive a power washer but it was pretty durable. Branches on the trail wouldn't mar it.

I did the center section the other day just like Trunk Monkey. Unfortunately, my "trim" was in worse shape than I thought and didn't look as good as I had hoped. Not bad, but not great. I just finished spraying the all the trim black with the Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating. I like it a lot! I took some pics but my camera is being stupid and I can't seem to get them uploaded properly. Never been a problem before? Maybe too many beers??? I'll try again tomorrow.

Here are some pics of the finished product. It may be hard too see, but I really like the results. Took just a couple hours to tape off, sand and paint.

Yes, it's the black Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating. The matte black makes it look a little gray in certain light. I really like it against the black truck.
