Has anyone put a trd hood scoop off a 4runner or pickup on a 80. Thinkin about grafting on in to a hood but would love to see pictures if youve done it.

Howdy! Do both of those models open at the front or rear? I can't remember. John

I like the look of the TRD scoop

Twenty-three hours of labor to do that job on the FJC. Not sure what labor rates are in many areas, but unless you do this yourself and have mad-skills, then this is not a cheap or easy setup.

I actually love the look of that setup, but wow it will take a hit to the pocketbook to get this done right. I wonder if you could even mount it "backwards", as to work as a cowl-induction setup. I seem to remember that our rigs are a bit neutral over that part of the hood, and actually have cowl back-pressure.

1. Purchase hood off of parts truck with scoop
2. Purchase hood off of 80 parts rig, so that you still have your factory one ;)
3. Cut scoop assembly out of original truck
4. Cut matching hole in Cruiser hood
5. Weld scoop in place
6. Do heaps of bodywork to get it to look right
7. Paint
8. Replace OE hood with newly scooped one

Would love to do this, but don't have the skills, and definitely not spending the coin at this point in time.

-wearing my flame suite-

dont they sell stick on 4runner style scoops? couldnt you just buy the "fake scoop" drill out the insides, drill matching holes into an 80 hood, paint to match?

What's the hood scoop for?

Top ten answers to give the next time someone asks "What's the hood
scoop for?"

#10 - It's designed to cool the panel that blocks the other side of it.

#9 - Stick your finger in there and I'll show you.

#8 - It's got 4WD and handles very good, and did you see this sunroof, and
check out the wheels, and...

#7 - I've been meaning to look that up in the manual, cool though isn't it?

#6 - Let's just say it's not exactly legal and leave it at that. I could get
in big trouble if I told you more.

#5 - What scoop? It's got a scoop?

#4 - It's an intake for the pump that feeds the pneumatic passenger ejection
system. Wanna go for a ride?

#3 - Feeds the top intercooler for the 2nd turbo, it was the only way they
could make it reliable with 525 HP.

#2 - Yes it is.

And the #1 answer for "What's the hood scoop for?"

#1 - Scooping, you idiot.

No, not bolt-on from the factory. Plenty of threads on Yotatech where Taco owners lament not having the scoop and have to do a ton of work also to get the 4Runner hood and fenders to work; pretty much the same as what the FJC guy did above.

Now, if one of you guys in SoCal want to see if Glassworks Unlimited is interested in doing a run of these for the 80 series, that is a different story. Looks like they have made Taco and Tundra hoods with this scoop, and will do custom work. Kind of hard to tell the quality from the small pictures, but you get the idea.

Custom Jobs

2001 to 2004 Toyota Tacoma "Super Charger" Style hood

I am sure that there would be a number of us who have S/C rigs who would jump on a functional hood which had the OEM Toyota look, and allowed us to add an intercooler up there.

OK, so no bolt-on scoop in the US...but the 2009 Hilux scoop is bolt-on. Functional as it supplies fresh air to the intercooler.

76180-0K906 1 € 147.06

76186 SEAL, HOOD AIR INTAKE
76186-0K010 1 € 56.70

So, who is game to order one? I may drop past the local Toyota dealer here in France to see what they really go for over here and while I am here.

Beno / Dan...does this show in the US parts system? ToyoDIY is listing it for the Americas, but I am assuming it may also be for Canada/Mexico.

That doesn't look bad and it won't be mistaken with a scubaru.

Those are not valid part numbers for the US market.

Thanks for checking Beno...off to local sources while I am overseas. Toyota Europe Design Development is literally just down the street from my office here in France, so will see if any of my friends in the area can help to find the right "source" beyond the local dealership.

I think that would be pretty slick!

Let us know if you can find one!
