This is as cruiser porn as it gets!!

I agree with mot, definately cruiser porn! :D
This is one sweet rig. That camper setup is pure genius and the cockpit look like a very comfortable place to spend a few hours at the wheel.
Great truck soenke, cheers for sharing these pics!

without the cabin

The window is bigger then stock, a Reimo window to slide open. In the cabins front wall is a matching window, allowing emegerncy exit to the cab..
I liked the look, would be nice as a flat bed...

maybe we should built a :wrench:convertible either cabin or bed....sometimes

thanks again. i would appreciate a picture of how the cabin is joint together with the cab. i will be doing similar on my build but was considering not putting a window, just open access between cabin and the cab. however i am concern about cabin noise and insulation (there is about 2 inches space between the cabin and the cab). i would prefer and open access, but if i am not able to resolve this issue i will put a window in the rear cab and front cabin.

thanks for sharing best build i have seen........:bounce::bounce2:

Hey,
the cab and cabin don´t join, due to the construction of the hardwalled top

accsess from cabin to cab through two matching sliding windows when the top is in upper position

if the cabin has only one single wall the accsess can be left open and sealed by using a rubber profile or rubber tube like a frame around the opening in the cabs back wall and the cabins front. Stil I would use a small door too. So you can lock the accsess to the cabin while parking or when the car is transported on a ferry etc...

Hey Gil,

the shocks and springs are customized for the car by
ht-suspensions
though don´t satisfyed our needs as good as I hoped...they have been much to hard. We had them overworked two times, haven´t tried the last set up yet....HT usualy builds for amored and heavy cars or for high speed rally cars. But they seem to last very long. We decided to spend some money, beeing bugged from OME lasting seldom more then one or two journeys.

The weight depends on the destination ...between ~2.9 and ~3.6 t . About 550kg is just fluids.:D...
for Afrika ,especially if driving alone, we would take more spares and tools then for Iceland...

Truly awesome vehicle... excellent use of space!

Unbelievable and very inspirational write up - thanks!

air conditions

Hi soenke, just wandering do you have air condition in the cabin? it seems that you may not need it where you are. just wandering, i have been thinking about it on my build.:bounce::bounce2:

Hey,
I got used to A/C traveling with the HZJ78.;).
We only used it going fast on main roads or pists to reach the destination we want to travel in...I found it very exausting having the window open and going fast, hot wind blowing in the car with a high noise level all day. ( We have been in the sahara in summer too ...)
So I wanted one again. We build the Vintage Air System in the cab, though I might change to stock sometime. With the bug chatcher windows driving with the window open isn´t a problem any more, no noise, no draught :)
In the cabin we don´t need A/C, doesn´t get to hot (white f/g roof) and ventilation is sufficient. Better to get adapted to the climate then beeing in airconditioned rooms the whole time  and die when stepping out
Remember just two nights too hot for sleeping in Botswana standing on hot rocks with no wind blowing...

An A/C System for the cabin requires powersupply or a running engine, or if it needs less power it will need water to evaporate. So I think it is not realy practicable for a small car used in remote areas

PS congratulations on your running 12-HT

Holy Schmidt! This is an incredible vehicle, mixing ingenious solutions with German quality. Congrats. Were you actually driving to somewhere down that cliff in the first pics?
