Several threads already, think they're mostly in Chat.
THX TM, I forget sometimes we've more than just a tech & classified section.
Hope to find some current experiences, as time changes everything doesn't!
I've done it several times. But it was always handled by a dealer I was buying from. They put it up on some kind of internet bulletin board sometimes but also usually have transporters that they use. Then when a guy has a load of vehicles and space for one more they will take it. I have also rented car haulers and hauled them myself. But you have to have the time. You can also rent a truck if you don't have anything that will pull it. That may be the cheapest way. If you can get away. I had a vehicle sent down from upstate NY to my house in Houston recently for right around $1000. As I recall they had about 8 vehicles and were dropping them off at various cities along the way. I finally just bought a car hauler.
You could fly to the location and then rent a 1/2 ton truck and a car hauler. Would be easier than driving both ways.
Another thing would be to go talk to a small used car dealer. Many do it all the time. Pay him maybe $100 to set it up. All they do oftentimes is make a call or have a secretary do it.
I imagine 10 minutes on google would answer the question. It is a really big business with a lot of competition and meth head drivers

Lots of good ideas thanks for taking the time.
I've run some numbers on cost of rental truck and car haul trailer. I come up with above $2K plus all said and done, for 1,500 miles. I'm doing a lot of estimating, so tell me; am I way off here on cost? (air, rental, insurance, food, hotel, gas)
Driving my 100 to pick-up renting a one way car hauler is about the same cost. But weight unsafe according to rental co, so they will not rent trailer to haul more than 80% weight as towing vehicle. With trailer it's over 8K lb. so not legal or safe. I've done this short haul, but long hum,,,, also insurance may become void.
Flat hauling with a hitch is an interesting idea and I'd like the adventure and break of a road trip...fun. But then I've the issues and expenses of acquiring and then attaching needed equipment in the field. Also pulling that much weight effect with a 100 series long haul is concerning & insurance.
Transporter seem most cost effective based on your $1k NY to Huston.
Would you recommend and will you give name of transporter?
