Looking for someone that can rebuild the JDM OEM transmission in my HZJ77.

@Onur its the JDM OEM one what more information do you need.....

Automatic.

Very few people are going to touch an A440F transmission.

It is pretty much an obsolete transmission with very little to no parts support from Toyota or the aftermarket.

You are easily looking at a $4-6K bill by a good transmission shop to rebuild an A440F.

What is my alternative?

I see rebuild kits like this online, they dont seem so expensive: Master Kit, Toyota A440F (4 Speed) (1985-1992) [137006AF] - $343.99 | Cobra Transmission - https://cobratransmission.com/master-kit-toyota-a440f-4-speed-1985-1992-1411005-1?gclid=Cj0KCQjws-OEBhCkARIsAPhOkIbRlLyI2XrszVQ_E48CAe4JJoGkjmP8ko3leG_8eLlTDgveb7NKnrwaAhwpEALw_wcB

And do you know the differences between an A440F for the US market FJ62 and the JDM market HZJ77? Are the torque converters the same? Same number of clutch packs? Valving the same between a petrol and a diesel engine? Oil seals and o-rings? These are all questions you need to ask.

I don't but I would assume the A440F designation is enough. Are you saying Toyota uses the same part number for different items?

Wilipedia says:

A440F[edit]

Type: Full automatic 4-speed transmission with converter lock-up. Fully mechanical / hydraulical control, no electrics or electronics. Mechanical throttle control input for kick-down function. Connects to external oil cooler. Uses ATF-II. Application:

  • 1985–1992 Land Cruiser

You should find an older school transmission shop near you. Nothing particularly special or difficult about these transmissions. I found a shop near me, Friendly Transmission in High Point, after doing some research and asking around. Yelp and Google reviews were very helpful tools in my search. Only trouble we had was finding the correct valve body gaskets. It’s a fully hydraulic A442F from a JDM HDJ80. I found a set in Romania! You’ll need to get VB gaskets for the diesel A440, the valve bodies are different between gas and diesel.

BTW, thank you for your responses, much appreciated. I'm navigating this blind and this forum has been very helpful.
