rack and sliders getting paint and will be installed Sunday.

Jason,
What kind of paint/primer are you using? Anything special you're doing to prep the steel?

Thanks,
Dean

D,

I stripped all the mill scale off your rails and everything else is P&O material. Wipe it off with a degreaser, alcohol etc... and just primer and paint.

When I bulk paint I use a Sherwin Williams Macropoxy.. But the VHT Epoxy is probably the best rattle can out there, IMO. Amazon and most auto supply houses have it on the shelf for around 7-10$ a can. Although it is a 2 in 1 product, I still use a primer before applying it.

The welds are perfect, it looked like they were finished by a robot. The rack fit exactly how I wanted it to. I couldn't be happier with the service I received. I think they are a great value considering most of the other sliders are close to, if not more than a grand.

woh woh.. there's an option to have these painted as well?

Pretty slick looking huh! I painted these for him since he was part of the R&D group and that way he didn't have to take off and re-install everything again. I got to see every hole, line up, spacing, complete aspect of install for the rack and sliders.

I do not offer these in anything but bare metal because the shipping carriers are not capable of delivering a finished product without damage. I think they pride themselves in destroying product honestly. No matter how well I package these heavier/awkward pieces they are too much for the employees to handle.

The sliders that @labcab posted a picture of above left my shop in a custom cut 275# cardboard box, foam wrapped and 50# craft paper packed tight package with poly bands.... Shows up at his door the way he posted them.

Hence only the bare metal offering.

Yeah that make sense I can see that. Well either way still works.

For those with them on I'd like to hear experiences on the trails. The few trails we have here in Socal with rocks are calling my name

I think @Emcd is the only one that has a set installed right now. I have 4 built sets and 2 DIY sets out in the past 10 days. With more sets headed to Denver and Canada next week. Reports should start coming back in soon.

I've built this same style for the 60 series and a few other vehicles for a few years now with flawless results from a pretty rambunctious group of drivers.

Started working on mine yesterday. I haven't welded since last spring...

Nothing a little flap wheel can't fix though.

Our plan is to have them finished and be ready for paint next Saturday. We'll see if we're able to get that far on our limited time.

Just take your time and control that heat.

Thanks for the additional pics Jason. I'm helping a friend pic a set of sliders for his (get this) white LX470. How'd you know ;-)

This is an honest question. I don't know much about sliders, but I have always thought that fender protection is one of its goals. In this picture, it looks like the aft part of the front wheel well is not covered if it were to be clobbered by a rock. Please feel free to correct me.

1st off thanks for the question... The pic you posted was explained--- as pulled all the way back. 2" of adjustment play in the design.

The design of this slider and the front whale tail of the front fender have some conflicts. My sliders rails are angled to get the least amount of slider to obstacle contact possible and at the same time providing the maximum ground clearance I can provide. They are called sliders after all. The tight fit to the body and angle causes the back end of the front fender to be a contact point for my rub rail (along wit several other slider mfg's for the 100) Unless I drop my slider 1-3/8", which takes away ground and side clearance both, they will not clear the front whale tail. I am happy to build someone a custom set, but they need to know that clearances will be lost.

I see your point about that pic, but when centered and spaced accordingly (see other pics) there is less than 1" of body exposed on either side. Unless you had a straight vertical drop on an object that was 3" or less wide WITHOUT any forward progression would be the only time in my experiences that this area would be a vulnerable point. Just saying.

There are flat diving board sliders out there for the 100s that extend from end to end. My products aren't for everyone and that is perfectly fine with me. I can build what you want, but for maximum clearances, IMO this is the best that is out there.

Cheers,

J

@reevesci , thanks for the reply. I missed the part about the ability to move it forward 2", hopefully this adjustability can be retained in the AHC version as well.
Your points are well taken - I do have to admit I don't know what a front whale tail is? Also, from a deflection stand-point, these rails are not infinitely stiff, so they will bend up when you drop the vehicle's weight onto them (lets say that somehow you manage to do this, Murphy's law). Is this typically something you would take into account while designing sliders?

Hopefully you take these questions in the right spirit, I'm here to learn not to offend or argue!

Here is the front whale tail on the fender. With the extension away from the main rocker it is an issue with mine and several other designs to not hit the fender.

There is deflection in any material to a point, hence why I allow a 1/2" buffer from the rail to the rocker. Also, with the pitch of my design the deflection is further limited. Strongest point on any cornered tube is the edge/corner not the flat portion.

Due to recent comments, even though constructive with a positive outcome. I want to protect myself and my products...So, I've re-designed a few things and will release my new items along with a few other things when my current inventory is depleted. Also, I have submitted for patented status (Monday 3-7-2016- 7:00 ET NY, NY with a 5-13-1988 photo and release letter from the original designer of similar and patent pending items) for old and new rack attachments and accessories alike. This is not a cheap process and can take upwards of 2-3 years to finalize, but the attorneys fees, drawings, letters, fees and blood type has been submitted (Monday 3-7-2016- 7:00 ET , NY, NY)

I just don't want to deal with/get into a altercation like I've recently read about Gobi, D'Mello, MT and a few others out there. This is a legitimate business for me (not many out there) I report/pay taxes on my business, I'm an LLC in Wyoming, carry product insurance and am a permitted business in my town/state.

My new tube splice for the racks.
