Man, I have to wonder if Gamiviti likes your roof rack design, no offence intended but yours looks like a knock off of their design. I know there's only so many ways to build a roof rack but this looks more like a re-make than an original concept plates, mounts, and all. Just my opinion but that's the first thing that came to mind (and yes I do run a Gamiviti rack).

Roof rack aside, I really like your slider design. It looks to be a very good use of material for strength vs weight and should clear mud well and at a good price point with DIY options to boot, nice job. If I was still in the market for sliders these would be high on my list.

^^ +2. First thing running through my mind! Make the above my words, including the slider part!

The mount plates are similar and if truth be told they are a modified copy of the Original Brownchurch Rover rack plates from the early 80s. Those were also extremely similar to a clip attachment plate for hydraulic lines on old BJ Services snubbing rigs in the oilfield. I use to make a variation of those by hand in the early 90s.

All in all, there only so many ways to bend and notch tube. Mounts, tube thickness, light tabs, welding process, tube sleeves are all different.

I've built this same version/style of for a few years now and never heard anything back until today.

If Gamaviti has an issue I am willing to discuss. I'm a reasonable guy.

Guys appreciate the support and for having my back... but we're all good. If the TT rack reminds you of a Gamiviti I will just consider that a compliment.. ;) thank you. I think there are enough differences between the two to be different, and this just provides folks with another option. We're both in this for the fun, we enjoy the process, and we'll do our best to not step on the other's toes too much- if anything the added competition just makes us both better, to your benefit.

Carry on, Jason, cheers man. -tim

It was a pleasure to talk with you today and to clear this up. Like you said there are enough differences and it will benefit both customers and ourselves alike.

Let me know if there is anything you need.

This is what I love about the vendors on here! (Most vendors on here) It's not a compatition, we do what we do because we enjoy it and when another vendor starts offering a product we are just as excided about seeing what they come up with as anyone els! It is also great for the consumers as well, the more options there are the more us as vendors have to improve the products we offer. And fwiw, Jason contacted me before he starts his rear bumper build just to make sure he wasn't causing any issue. I have never met him but that tells me he is a very respectable guy and I look forward to talking shop with you in Colorado! Keep up the good work! Look forward to seeing your work in person.

Ben, thanks for the kind words and same to you sir.

Like we discussed, there is similar geometry on a majority of the products out there. The rear wing we discussed is similar to the Raslarr Eng and ARB just flipped with a different angle, if you will. I've had that idea in my head for years, hence why I contacted you.

You recently had the comments on your prototype roof rack being similar to the Prinsu. You, I and others could see distinct differences while others just saw the exact same thing. As fabricators we see lines and angles and see ways to make them look and function better with a style we like to build. I can see similarities in my racks, Gamiviti, Baja, Safety devices, Gobi, Brownchurch, Rhino, ARB... the list keeps going.. You, Tim, me and all truly dedicated fabricators can't walk by a bumper, rack, sliders or anything made from metal without looking and critiquing what we just saw.

I've had requested to build your exact front bumper, Gobi stealth rack, Tim's flip Expo rack, Slee & ARB products and I've refused to.

I like a lot of the products out there and I've been inspired by several of them over the past 25 years. I refer work all the time to Tim, you, Dave and several others on a regular basis.. I'd rather the work stay within the forum.

Like I told Tim, once my website is finalized it will have a Land Cruiser vendors page. Tim's contact info will be on there as will yours and several others.

Look forward to seeing you in CO as well.

Your 100% correct, we see a design and make it our own. There is only so many things you can do with bumper or roof rack to make it different from others. Most of the time the products you see where someone has tried to think completely outside of the box and the end result is awful!
As fabricators our personal tast will always show with our work and I think that is what will set our products apart from one another, not that either one is better than the other but each one will fill a different niche.

If we really want to talk copy, let's look at arb, tjm and iron man :) Just not here.

@reevesci Thanks a lot for addressing my comments, I would agree that there are only so many ways to build this stuff and I wasn't allowed to drive in the 80's so I don't remember those Brownchurches from those days. Each company is also unique to work with and adds something of value.

@reevesci, @nakman, @benc, Big thanks to all three of you for being easy going, approachable, down to earth guys who add a lot to the 100 series offerings and community!

My apologies for sidetracking your marketing thread, my comments only come from my respect for the small shops out there, build on everyone.

No worries at all!

Like I said above I'm reasonable and pretty easy going on most days. I just want everyone to get what they want. The main reason I started Trail Tailor.... was to tweak and customize one off items for all the guys that don't want the same product that 50 other guys are running around with. "Personalized" fabrication if you will, for an affordable price.

All in all, Its all good in my hood!

Back to service and fabrication as usual.

When can we see these mounted up to a Hundy?

When can we see these mounted up to a Hundy?

Sliders or racks?

I'll try and get a slider bolted up on my rig this week sometime. If not, Friday I will have the AHC in the shop and will get to take pics then.

Racks, have shipped out and hopefully in the next week they will start going up.

J

Sweet Jesus I love those sliders. How much are they? I didn't see a price listed.
