As all the parts are available for current model 70 series'. The new parts would simply be whatever US DOT and the various CFRs require as all their other million or so vehicles already have here.

Hmm, the post is definitely written in a way that sounds real, but, why would a Toyota R&D guy leak the fact that 70's might be imported into the US on a web forum? I hate to sound like Shotts, but if it's true my best guess is it's such a pipe dream that it is harmless to leak it.

has anyone considered how expensive a 70 series imported here would be? They aren't cheap anywhere. It would be very limited run so the fixed costs of certification, marketing, and service and parts support setup and training would be spread over a small number of machines. My guess is you would be starting at $40k minimum and maybe higher. They would probably trick them out like g-wagens and defenders to justify the price. I'd still like one but I don't know if I could afford it.

I didn't write the Toyota dealymobob. :) Thanks for using my name though in your post. :D

Better overall? What a crock. We're talking about LAND CRUISERS here. Nobody here cares whether a Cruiser rides better on the pavement than it does off road! Well all have CARS for that. There is nothing about IFS that makes a cruiser better off road! IFS is WEAK, it doesnt offer articulation, it's expensive, its inferior!

Fine Toyota, make all your OTHER vehicles IFS. LEAVE THE LAND CRUISERS STRAIGHT AXLE PLEASE!

It's 2005 GUY. Let's be real though. We're not the majority. How many idiots are wheeling new 100's like my own idiot self? ZERO? 1? 4? Their going to make the trucks to appeal to the masses and we're not it. I'd LUV a 105 to sit next to my 100 (on;y higher :D ). It ain't happening though. Let's accept it and try to better what we have? :)

I agree, sadly. All the good Toyota stuff is found in bloody Australia!

Not to pick on you, but that's really shallow. Overall, if you got out of my 100 and into your 60 you'd poop at the difference. Better yet, if you went off road in my 100 you'd stop making comments like you do. :D

There isn't only ONE WAY to design a successful vehicle. SFA is only ONE aspect of an SUV's design. The 100 might not have the same flex over an 80 or 60 but in EVERY other way it pounces the older Cruisers.

hmm, well at minimum a 100 is way uglier than all older cruiser models, and don't get me started on the differences between the owners :D

OK, I normally don't engage in something so rediculous as looks because it's so subjective.....BUT.....I have a question for you:

Put your 80 next to my 100 on display in a mall and have people vote on their favorite looker. Do you actually think the 80 will get more votes? Don't forget MoJ's signature (now he's famous :D )

It's fake, I called toyota of NA and he said it was highly unlikely that it was Toyota.

Give us a break

Shotts,
shutup.webp

The only thing that was left was this, is this to what you're referring?:

The 70 series would have to be imported via ship from another country, then hauled all around the US to various dealerships, advertised for exclusively, etc.

Unless I took you completely wrong and you were saying there is no reason this wouldn't work either? :D

Yep. That sentence kinda contradicts the "pulling parts off the shelf" idea when they will have to ship the whole thing from overseas, then figure out how to market it.

Completely brings into play the last sentence to be quoted from my post

The closest example would be the Mercedes G-500, which stickers out at around $80k new.

How many you think are going to pay $80K for a vehicle that rides and drives like s*** on the road compared to everything else out there?

Let's say it was stripped down.... $50K?

How many honest to goodness wheelers you going to get to pay $50K for a vehicle that they will bash off road?

All the vehicles you quoted are constructed by basically taking off-the shelf parts and putting them into a vehicle, with the exception of the Rubicon, for which they had to source e-lockers, and the Viper, which was designed as a flagship vehicle to entice more sales throughout the Dodge line.

What are you smoking? NONE of those vehicles were constructed w/ OTC parts. The Vette has nothing in common w/ anything else that Chevy sells, nor the Viper with anything that DC sells. The Lightning has an engine/suspension not available in anything else and you already mentioned the Rubicon/Pwagon.

Anyway - what's your point? Toyota already has all the parts, just refuses to use them.

And Shotts... Put the crack pipe down. You get your undies in bunch about your 100 way to easily. You can claim it and IFS is better than anything until the sun goes down, but it won't make you right...

You guys seriously need to work on your reading comprehension. If you don't see the point, I aint going to walk you through it....

Well, take that back.

Vette? You mean a vehicle with guaranteed yearly sales no matter what kind of evolution it goes through, including traction control and everything? What was the last brand new Cruiser you bought?

Viper? You mean the vehicle I addressed in the same post you quoted above?

Lightning? Ok, slightly different engine, but same body, frame, wheels..... DOES THIS REALLY NEED TO BE SPELLED OUT HERE???????

Define "better"?

Oh, and as for the looks stuff. My wife likes the 80 much better than the 100. :) It's rediculous to argue about looks. :D

Define "better"?

Shotts,
Hence the name MALL CRUISER aka. UJZ-100. If you take that thing at put it side to side with an 80 near a trail, then see what happens. I didn;t know the opinions of children and MILFS was so important to 100 series owners.

Drew: You are ONE SMART DUDE! You got the "mall" scenario. BRILLIANT BUDDY!

Isn;t that the way everybody that owns a TLC in the states gets one?????

Yes. But there will be far less 7X series sold in the US than regular Land Cruisers, therefor making the marketing and expendeture for each vehicle much greater (especially for initial release and awareness creation), making the 7X series cost more than the regular models.

Simple business.

So say some how this were to actually happen...does anyone have any clue how much a brand new 70 series would cost for us....thats my biggest concern....30k?.....50k?.....any rough ideas? but yes, im all for this, it would be awesome to add a 70 to the crew.
