My old gasket was good enough to re-use. It’s not ideal but also not the end of the world.Keep in mind that buying a new CV should also include a new diff seal, drive flange and gasket at the least. For me it was about $630ish for one side.

Yeah probably not a big deal. The flange is more important. Mine didn’t even have a gasket and was dealer serviced its entire life.My old gasket was good enough to re-use. It’s not ideal but also not the end of the world.
Yeah the point is to keep water and debris out so using a little grease helps seal with or without the presence of the gasket.Yeah probably not a big deal. The flange is more important. Mine didn’t even have a gasket and was dealer serviced its entire life.

No, they are referring to the hub flange that has the matching splines which mate up to the splines of the CV axle (pic 1). As for the diff seal it's at the end of the axle tube (pic 2).Got my new OEM axles - now drive flange and gaskets. Are you saying that the flange coming out of the back of the diff (to the drive shaft)needs to be replaced when you are installing new CV axles? Is this a wear item- or am I looking at the wrong drive flange?
I am trying to decipher the expanded parts drawing for my '05 and from what I can make out Toyota calls the Drive Flange a Companion Flange and they offer two different seals.
Can anyone confirm these are the correct part numbers?

9031147013 Output seal
Thanks

Project: Rebuilding a busted CV - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/project-rebuilding-a-busted-cv.1196274/I've decided to move direction again. I will be re booting since I have no grinding or clunking in my driveline.
Is there a DIY I could look at?
Reboot kit number for outer boot: 0442760120
NO.Has anyone used a cheater boot?

Want to confirm these are the correct oil seals to order for doing the CV axles, because my brain is telling me they should be the same on both sides, since it's the same axle on either side.Diff Oil Seal (Drivers side): 90311-47013
Diff Oil Seal (Pass Side): 90311-47027
The numbers I posted are correct. No, they are not the same for both sides. I forget which but one side is a larger diameter then the other. The front diff is not centered across the width of the truck, it's offset a significant amount to the passenger side. So the drivers side oil seal actually fits into the end of the axle tube which is ~16" long, while the passenger side seal fits into the side of the diff housing.Want to confirm these are the correct oil seals to order for doing the CV axles, because my brain is telling me they should be the same on both sides, since it's the same axle on either side.
I ordered these two seals and when I picked up my parts last night immediately noticed they're different sizes. I don't recall which was the larger of the two, but I'm assuming that's the one I want on both sides? Where would that smaller seal belong? Want to make sure I've got the right parts for the job before I open anything up.
