Looking for a new rig and wanted your opinion on underbody rust. It's a 2005 one owner. I can't tell if it's surface rust or worse. [

If you can see that much rust I would be worried about what you cant see. Vehicles in GA should not have that much rust unless they had some beach trips in the salt water. I would keep looking.

It's from CT. I was planning on building my wife's 06 lx but she won't let me have it.

Looks pretty damn good for a CT rig if you ask me!

I lucked out with my recent one but I haven't seen one look that good up here even with coatings and treatment.

I'm hoping it's all surface. I'll probably take it to a shop to make sure it's not worse. The body looks rust free. It's not the color I want, but 100s aren't to common right now I guess.

Is this the white Cruiser for sale at Sandy Springs Toyota?? If it is, I went and took a look at it last Friday morning. I saw the rust and it was enough to make me get back in my truck and leave. Good luck with your search...I've been looking for one in the Atlanta area for about 6 months now and they are definitely hard to come by!

I wouldn't reject the truck based on the rust in the photos, particularly if the body has no rust. There will be some corrosion you'll have to deal with, like the e-brake mechanism and a few things like the rear shock nuts will be more of a challenge. But, the surface rust on those massive frame members is irrelevant. Let other things (service history, price, miles, etc.) be the deciding factors.

Thanks. I can always put on new skid plates or sand blast and repaint. Service history is perfect. I'll try to use the rust as a negotiating point. It's a 2005 with 130k miles asking $18,900 at the dealer. I'm hoping for a lot less.

I looked at that one. There is something weird about the history - looks like it has been in various dealer inventories for over a year. At least they've finally fixed the bumper cover.

for the North East that is literally non-existent rust. I don't know what the rest of you guys are talking about but the thing is 10 years old running around (most likely) in winters that are salted to high haven up here. if you absolutely cant stand rust move to TX or something. even if you buy a perfect 10 year old rig down south, it'll look like the one you showed in a couple of years up here.

My new LX already looks like that after only experiencing salt since last March. You guys from the south would have fainted seeing the bottom of my 100 after 16 winters up here. Although, truth be told, nothing broke(other than the emergency brake assembly) due to rust in all that time and the body was pretty much perfect.

We have our rust, southerners have their fried paint, cloudy headlights, and heat and sun cracked interiors. I'll take the rust since it doesn't really show up where I can see it.

IMHO that's not enough rust to worry about. My 19-year old 300,xxx mile 80 has lived in Massachusetts, Minnesota, Illinois, North and South Dakota and now Arizona and has about the same amount on the frame. Only issues are with frame bolts (for the shocks, etc.) and they come off easily enough with a little help. Important thing is the body, which on mine, and probably that one too, has zero rust. Dings yes, but no rust.

FamaJ - I saw that history gap. I wonder if they used it as a dealer car or something. Choices are slim...lots of cruiser guys and very little GA inventory.

Here are the only bad spots on the body. All on the lift gate. thoughts? I was planning on giving them a very low offer. A

Too much rust? Are you serious? I just picked up 02 LC with 129k miles and you will have a cow looking at mine. Body is perfect with little scratches, interior is pristine condition with no cracks on dash or leather, but underneath, knowing this car lived up North its entire life, rusts are evident. Tailgate picture reminds me of my LC. Emergency brake is toast, got to yank it for now since making all kinds of sound, bolts are seized up. I went ahead and bought some Permatex rust desolver and encapsulator and worked on it. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about that much of rust. I have lived in Minnesota for 26years, and most of the cars with salt pickled underbody, that I am used to.
